Re: R100 GS Brake shoes

I'd beg to differ, From what I've read, and from looking at my own bikes, the brake shoes these bikes came with were very hard when they were new- ie a bit too hard and tended to wear out the drum rather than the pads. Add 22 years to the situation... things aren't getting any softer. I think the fa...

Re: Starter's Dying---Rebuild or Nippondenso?

After a fair bit of research and some conversations, I decided a while ago to to go the chinese Valeo clone path. A gamble, sure, but it seems like it is paying off for a lot of people. I had a box of parts gathering at a friends place in Germany, so I got one for the R90 and one for the G/S :D They...

Re: Brunhilde refurb update

http://pic50.picturetrail.com/VOL405/8230927/24203189/404346599.jpg As per email discussions I'm very impressed with the seat (and Brun) Charlie, it grows on me more every time I look at it. Bravo. The turn around between popping the thing in the mail and receiving a finished photo was impressive. ...

Re: Brunhilde refurb update

Well done Charlie, I can't wait to see her in the flesh. For your shorter lower seat I might have something good for you- the remains of my G/S seat. I cut the rear pillion end off the double seat to slot behind my G/SPD single seat (as a removable pillion option). I've got the front half of the G/S...

Re: Speed, revs and my ST

Not bad at all Peter! Hey, for a thread drift, did you know Paul Rooney isn't far from you (he's just south of Balina). If you ever need another opinion on your dual plug set up, he's a got a few tricks up his sleeve regarding that subject. He's a great guy, a wealth of knowledge, and well worth dro...

Re: Speed, revs and my ST

It doesn't sound like your speedo is very happy. In the spirit of preventative maintenance to avoid expensive and annoying failures, It might be time to open her up and give it a clean and a lube and see what is going on. It is not nearly as daunting as you might imagine and once spread out in front...

Re: Speed, revs and my ST

So for legal purposes, I see we are talking about a track day here? ;) They'll both be wrong no doubt, but one more right than the other... I don't know. You need a GPS and you'll figure it out very quickly- once it gets wound up a bit, my R90 speedo runs on about 10% optimism. After rebuilding my G...

Re: what master cylinder piston size for 40mm ATEs?

This is probably really old news but, Due to struggling on all the old bikes I try to bleed brakes on, mine and my friend's, I've taken to including a kind of reverse bleeding procedure into the routine. Do the normal bleeding of course, and when that doesn't work well enough, which it never seems t...

I LOVE BUYING STUFF ON EBAY and I'm not afraid to shout it. Ive bought a few dud things, but the good stuff more than makes u...

Re: /6 upgrades

No experience with shortening the rear shocks- but I have experienced playing around with raising the front, which is somewhat related. First question must be why? For the vertically challenged altering the seat might be the best idea. Theoretical affect on handling would be a slight increase in tra...
