Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Enough discussion of my embarrassing sarcasm, reputed to be "the weapon of the weak".

The bike ran great on the way to work this morning. The way home has been the test in the past.

Again, thanks to everyone's help.

No, I saw it. Just being sarcastic about my own procrastination.

Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Clap clap clap... And, I owe you a beer. Come to the Manchester Airhead Campout next weekend, and I'll pay up. Just got back- 80 mph, 5K RPM, pretty good headwind, slightly uphill, full windscreen and elbows out.... no sputter. Even left one petcock closed, the other on "on", not reserve. ...

Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Jeez! Why didn't someone mention adjusting the floats?? Anyway, thanks Bamboo. The right side float was WAY low, and the left looked OK (parallel with the carb base, and about 24 mm of fuel from bottom of bowl). Heading out for a ride to test...

Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Noooo, not yet. Will do today. Another factor in this formula is the frontal area of my GSPD. The model probably has the largest, least aerodynamic front of any of the airheads, and I've made it worse with a 24" windscreen. Pushing a lot of air will take more horsepower. Sure is nice to ride th...

Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Update- The bike ran with no stumbles for the first 165 miles yesterday. Cool morning, mostly flat and easy riding (with a group). Then, on the way home (riding alone, and faster) I got that "running out of gas" hesitation. It was warm (the bike had been running for about 15 minutes), I go...

Re: Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Hi all, Thanks for all the conversation. I didn't mention in the original post that I did the "flow test" with a pretty low tank- about 2 gallons left. That said, it was a "static" test, and I do wonder what other factors come to play while actually riding- vibration, incline, ti...

Flow issues with '92 GSPD tank

Hi, Maybe, like me, it's that old guy thing? I'll drop in some Flowmax if you guys can't help me :? . So the GSPD tank supposedly holds 9+ gallons. I've tested the reserve capacity in the garage (about .5 gals right side, and .6 gals left side). My bike starts sputtering with about 3 gals (determine...

Broken tabs on 1983 transmission

Bummer bummer bummer! I sold a transmission to a fellow, and the two tabs that anchor the clutch pivot arm were broken during shipping. Bummer! I have no faith in UPS taking any responsibility, based on past experiences. A new back cover is $250+. Seems unlikely to find a good used one. Anyone think...

Re: That little screw that seals the vacuum port on my Bings

I love this Board! All good answers. Turns out my local 'screw' guy has 3.5mm machine screws. Going by tomorrow.

Do I know nurses? Hell ya! I love nurses- my mom, my son, 1/2 my friends are RN's. And, I work in hospitals 5-10 days a month. I'll grab some of those!

Thanks guys!
