I converted my left carb to something like this, took away the cable on the rhs. Find it starts well with only one side enriched.

This draws less than the origional H4 which draws 55/60. So the effect on your chargin system is positiv.

Puff of smoke from the left side is common if the bike has been standing on the side stand.

Velkommen Bjørn! You'll find this a very nice community! Lot's of good advice here, I would start with the diphragm if it's not allready changed. Another thing not mentioned, are you running with both fueltaps open? and have you tried openenig the fulecap when it's surging? could be ventilation. goo...

I must admit I have my sidestand-habits from old days riding japanese motorbikes. We used to remove the centrestands 'cause they where the first thing to touch ground, riding hard in corners..
