While you are in there, might as well inspect the check valve. I use a chop stick to press the ball in, to check that it is seated. :)

If they have the rubber ends I would imagine you would not add O rings. have a look into the filter chamber to see if there is a remaining O ring or stuck rubber end. Check the size of the filter!!!
