#**! Exhaust Nuts

A bad day I decided I wanted to take the exhaust system off today for another reason. I can't budge those darn exhaust nuts....despite having lubed them as a prevention this spring with Cu anti-sieze. - used liberal amounts on everthing that touches - no, I didn't torque to anywhere near the spec, j...

Re: Need a pair of Battery covers, '78 R100

Sorry, don't have any to spare. But I wonder what the best fix is to prevent this kind of thing from happening again. - Use 2 of those elastic bands? - Cinch 'em with steel fishing leader? - Use a black polyethylene strap from cover to cover and sheet metal screws or Dzus fasteners to attach the str...

Why not just check for warp with a dial indicator first?

Re: Valve recession

Are they upgrading the seats on the '81 and newer bikes, or just replacing valves? Randy Long installed all guides, upgraded exhaust valve seats, and all new valves, checked valve spring load vs deflection when he did mine. Most the reputable guys will replace the seats for you. If I wasn't going t...

Re: Valve recession

Duane I had Randy do the seats and guides for me about 4 years ago. That's on an 82 R100. He's got a good rep in the airhead group around here. Oak had my heads first but I was impatient about getting them back and on the road. Since Oak had my heads for 2 months and was back-logged for another 3, I...

Re: Oil Pressure Switch - Long term Solution?

For those folks in the U.S., another source: Advance Auto Supply has part number S4015, comes with a crush washer. Runs around 9 bucks. It works. I also applied some JB Weld ( a slow setting filled epoxy ) after cleaning the switch with brake cleaner. We'll see how that does over time. thanks for th...

Steve
The thread for later airheads with non-tapered thread is M12 x 1.5 I guess a blanking bolt and crush washer would work if one had a bad leak on the road. ( Do you feel lucky? )

Re: Oil Pressure Switch - Long term Solution?

It's an 82 R100. I don't think I'm tapping the switch with my toe but I'll be consciously aware of that in the future. More likely I'm probably tightening too tight and causing the leakers as Kurt offered. The JBWeld or epoxy potting doesn't sound bad either. I'll do the shotgun approach with all th...
