Re: R100S occasional sputter and idle issues. Coil?

Weak battery. It's a brand new Odyssey! And this happened with the previous battery, which was fine, i ended up switching it to another bike for design/space reasons (it was an alien motion battery). However, while riding, my cockpit volt meter sometimes is at 12v no matter what lights I have on, a...

Re: R100S occasional sputter and idle issues. Coil?

one cylinder was firing on the bike. I moved the spark plug cable to the non firing side, and everything worked. I tried different plug cables, and that wasn't it. I replaced the coils and Bingo! both sides fired. I ran the bike about 2 miles and put it away. The next day, same issue. Left side stop...

Re: R100S occasional sputter and idle issues. Coil?

My problem is back but much worse. The left side is not firing at all now. I had the issue at work, and in high RPM, both sides will fire, low RPM, the left side will not fire. I'm wondering if it is the box for the dyna ignition finally dying on me after 40k miles on it? Or??? any other ideas? It i...

Re: R100S occasional sputter and idle issues. Coil?

The problem has re-surfaced, gone away, and resurfaced many times now. I cleaned, blown out, and tuned carbs a few times now thinking it was a carb issue. I checked valves a few times in there too. After getting my carbs synced perfectly this last round, and still experiencing a fart/hesitation at l...

Re: When a Valve Cover stud Time Sert fails?

My dealer did the first thread repair on my R65 around the 2nd year. I probably thought tightening it would solve an oil leak. Hello Rob, I feel that I am in the same boat. I have a peculiar oil leak on one side. I thought it was because that stud became loose. What was the cause and solution to yo...

Re: When a Valve Cover stud Time Sert fails?

Douph! Such a simple solution. Thanks. Sometimes the answer is too easy to see it!

I just ordered some M8 threaded Rod. It arrives on Saturday. If I can't Time Sert, then the rod will work.

I never heard of doing double gaskets though... humm...

When a Valve Cover stud Time Sert fails?

One of my 1977 R100S valve covers started weeping oil pretty badly. I took it off. Noticed that the gasket was really stiff and crusty. I removed it and put a new one on only to find out that the problem is the center stud spinning inside the head. While i was at it, I checked the valves only to fin...

R65 Triple Tree Question?

I have a 79 R65 that needs a bit if a rebuild.

I'm wondering if a top clamp from a 70's era airhead (/6, /7) will fit on that bike or if the offset dimensions are different between the forks and the stem.
I can see that the fork tubes measure the same 36mm.

Re: Troubleshoot help. No Spark R90/6

I'm thinking that due to the original single dyna green coil set up, it may have been wired for that and not for the 2 6V coils? To be honest, I'm not totally sure I understand it all... which is why I stick to mostly a stock set up when it comes to running and tuning these machines.

Re: Troubleshoot help. No Spark R90/6

OK... bike went to my Guru for his expertise. Turns out that the coils were wired in series (not my doing). And the carbs needle was at the lowest setting (not my doing either). It seems that both of those issues, along with a leaking head gasket that ended up in a top end rebuild... and now the bik...
