Re: Valve jobs,etc ?

Ted Porter is training a guy to take over valve jobs. He's probably up and running by now. If you contact Ted, he will connect you.

Re: Rear hub and Final drive gap

I figured it out. The seal around the splines was too far forward, towards the end of the splines. It was almost covering the entire drain hole. I took the cover off, pushed the seal back towards the bearing more, put the drive back together, mounted the wheel, torqued the axle and everything spins ...

Re: Rear hub and Final drive gap

Long story but the bike was a basket case and I'm using a different /5 hub that what came with the rolling chassis. The bad part is that it is an early /5 hub where you have to put the top hat spacer in with the stack, and it takes the aluminum seal with felt behind it. (Vs the later hubs where you ...

Rear hub and Final drive gap

I'm assembling a /5 at the moment and hit a head scratcher. The final drive has been apart and re-sealed / new gaskets. Turns as expected. Same splines (they were in good shape), same shims. The wheel hubs have a 69 stamp on them. I'm getting a big gap (maybe 1/8 inch) between the hub and the final ...

Re: Brake pad installation

FWIW, the lower brake pipe that connects to the calipers were too funky (bent) and there was air in the system, plus the right rotor is pretty worn. I'm changing all that out and hoping to be back in business soon.

Re: Brake pad installation

Thanks Rob. In my original post, i stated they were EBC. The pads were working fine for a year or so, and as of lately, I'm realizing that my wrists are taking the brunt of the effort to squeeze less effective pads. My thought is that the pads got 'glazed' somehow and don't have the bite anymore to ...

Re: Brake pad installation

I have a set of EBC, maybe half their life left, however (not to hijack the thread but...) in the past few months, it feels like the brakes aren't biting or grabbing as effectively and I have to squeeze the brake handle harder than usual. Is it the pads or something to do with the fluid? This is a '...

Sounds like ignition/timing to me.

Re: Fuel tank sealer

I use POR 15 often and it works OK. On one tank, 13 years later (40k miles later), a few pieces flaked off inside the tank. Another tank is amazing , and I've seen it bubble inside another tank.. Caswell - I had a tank that had a small leak in it and that stuff sealed all the leaks, and worked fanta...
