Re: Pre load Gear changing
It's got to wear things out. If the bike is operating properly, it shouldn't be required. Once you get use to the timing, it should not be any more difficult to shift than any other bike. I go from airhead to modern machines without a thought. Mechanically speaking, it shouldn't make a difference. ...

Re: R80/7 Refurb finished almost.
Here's ikons working on a decent dirt road.... I'd say the two screen rivets are rattling near the mirrors making that awful rattling noise. I bet a nut and bolt and rubber washers stopped it. Oops. Here's Ikons working where life's easy and smooth, compared to the outback where the Ikons are just ...

From Austria somewhere, I think. Must have had the Ikons shipped over from Oz.SteveD wrote: ↑Thu Jan 05, 2023 5:35 am This guy uses ikons...he's happy with them.

Re: Maytag repair man syndrome
I had a Maytag. After 5 years it leaked around the main seal. The main seal is the first thing they put on the bench, and then bolt everything else to it. I bought the parts and proceeded to repair before throwing it out and buying a Westinghouse. Replacing the front crank main bearing retaining pin...

Re: Wheel Bearing Question
I don't think that's been done. If you could swap the whole RT front end that would be good but different fork tube diametres.
I don't know if the RT triple tree can fit a mono steering head tube?

Re: R100s 1978 - Oil light only goes off at high revs
The o ring and shim is what I'd check. That's about the only place enough oil could be dumped to make the light stay on?
Pull the oil pressure sender unit and crank it, that will tell if there's oil pressure beyond the filter.
It might make a mess of course.

Re: Did I install my rear main seal too deep??
You could always put just the carbs back on and run it a bit BEFORE installing the transmission to see if it leaks. That was your advice to me years ago when I couldn't find a leak. Turned out to be a small crack in the oil pump cover bolt hole. Started the bike with no clutch in the way and there ...

Re: 1978 R80/7 Engine keeps going
I recall something from Boxerworks years ago about powering up the rear brake switch to power the ignition. A method of hot wiring?
