Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

Did your autopsy determine what caused the lifter to jam in the first place. Was it the needle bearings? I was not able to figure out what caused the lifter to self-destruct, but based on the needle bearings in the oil pan, I have my ideas... As for the lifter bore damage, my previous post has a li...

Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

FInally got the lifter out. Not sure where to go from here. Other than this mess, internally the motor looks really good; however I have concerns about the gauges in the lifter bore as well as what looks like some rounding of the cam lobe.

Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

I was able to get the top half of the broken lifter out yesterday, but the bottom half is still in there. It slides up to a point but then stops. I'll get it out eventually, but I'm more concerned about the condition of the bore itself. I'll know more once the rest of the lifter is out, but it looks...

Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

the lifters seem to grab the last couple mm of rod before they pop out... YES, exactly. Back in November I knew something wasn't quite right but I wasn't sure what it was. I hope that you get the broken one out easily. I think that with the cylinder removed it is easy... On older engines the block ...

Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

The plot thickens... Dropped the oil pan and discovered 5 NEEDLE BEARINGS sitting in the bottom of the pan. I suspect at least one other needle bearing found its way down the pushrod tube and caused the lifter destruction. I may have to pull the cam to get the stuck/broken lifter out. I assume I can...

Re: R75 ticking noise from lifter?

Well... I finally figured out where the infamous ticking noise was coming from. The bike died on me yesterday during a ride (thankfully not too far from home). I pulled the right side valve cover off on a hunch and sure enough, the exhaust valve was not opening. Long story short (head, jug, piston a...

Re: Bob's Replica Shocks

Thanks for the feedback. It's interesting... I have done a good bit of web searching, but can find no one who's even using Bob's; guess that alone gives me an answer.

Bob's Replica Shocks

Looking to replace the shocks on my R75/7. Anybody got any experience with these shocks? http://store.bobsbmw.com/product/bobs-replica-shocks-pair-for-1977-84-7 Been looking at Ikons and Hagons, but was curious about these units from Bobs. I like the stock look and the price, however quality and per...

73 R75/5 and 77 R75/7 Engine Commonality

I came across a guy with a 73 75/5 engine (non-running) for sale ($100), and was thinking of picking it up for possible parts use on a recently acquired 77 R75/7. The 77 runs well (aside from the ticking from the right exhaust :x ), but its mileage and history is largely unknown to me. I know the va...

Replacement Mirrors for R75/7

Anybody got a good source for a set of mirrors? OEM mirrors look a little pricey ($46 a piece? ), but none of the aftermarket generic mirrors I've seen online have jumped out at me. Not looking for anything fancy, just something that fits and doesn't look stupid (and let's me see what's behi...
