KATDASH for Better Lighting?

I've seen the ads for KATDASH, and I've read some threads and reviews. First of all, the stock bulb holder is working fine on my 1988 R 100 RT, and I have a backup unit that works well too. But, lighting at night is less than desired. So, the only reason to change to the KATDASH would be for better ...

Re: 1980 r100rt electrical gremlins..

While my knowledge is somewhat limited here, I pass along my experience. My 1988 R100 RT was showing low charging. Over the winter, along with other repairs, I replaced the alternator brushes, cleaned rings on the stator, added solid diode board mounts, replaced all the wiring harnesses since they w...

Re: Pre load Gear changing

Rob knows his stuff far better than me and he's probably forgotten more than I'll ever know. However, I think it may depend on what type of gear lever you have on your bike. You didn't indicate the year or bike. The earlier Airheads had the gear lever directly bolt to the transmission. Later ones us...

I can't speak for MDchanic, but that's where my comments were directed.

Re: Winter Project is Done

My point regarding static timing is specific to the built-in lights of the Wedgetail and not with regards to static timing in general. I think static timing would be easier. However, the built in lights on the Wedgetail did not come on when the unit was rotated very slowly, making it very difficult,...

Re: Winter Project is Done

That being said, i did not feel that setting the timing as instructed was satisfying anywhere but on the side of the road. - Eric I agree with you. It was a good starting point, but was way off. When I used a timing light, the S mark was no where to be seen in the timing window. I eventually got it...

Re: Which O Ring?

One O ring is ±$0.50 each and the other is ±$2.50 each. Granted ±$5-$10 (depending on where it's ordered) will not break the bank, but it seems like a waste to spend $5-$10 just in case.

Which O Ring?

I was talking with someone who helped me with my winter project, and he suggested I take out the brake cam to clean and re-lube, which sounds like a good idea. Looking at the BMW parts fiche, there are two different O Rings indicated for O ring for the cam shaft (both are listed as part #20. FYI, th...

Re: Winter Project is Done

For those who would like a longer more detailed description, here it is. I slowly worked through each area inspecting parts and electrical wires. I ended up replacing just about all of the electrical wiring that connects to the engine. After 35+ years and ±105k miles, much of the wire insulation was...

Winter Project is Done

So, back in November, I figured I’d spend about a month or two doing some much needed repairs/maintenance on my 1988 R100 RT. My plan was to replace the timing chain, rebuild the master brake cylinder and replace the brake hoses, have the drive shaft U-joints replaced and replace the leaking neutral...
