Re: Crankcase breather advice please

Correct Kurt, here's a photo of the orientation from an unmolested bike: http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/1091/dsc16301831136.jpg /img] Tim, does that reed valve orientation pictured still apply to my later housing where the inbuilt exit channel is at 12 o clock? I can see why it needs to be at 1...

Re: Crankcase breather advice please

No need for the torch. After removing the disc and associated hardware, I used some mild steel wire to make a 12" loop through the openings of the breather and slid the handle of my small sledge hammer in the loop. A couple swings upward and out popped the breather. Note: the new breather gets...

Re: Crankcase breather advice please

Right, i got the cover off without removing the starter motor and i have found that i do have the old type valve fitted so have ordered the later type reed valve as a replacement. I can see that i am going to have to devise a puller but would it assist if i use a gas blowtorch to GENTLY heat the all...

Re: Crankcase breather advice please

Many thanks Kurt. Do i still have to remove the front engine cover to get at the 3rd starter bolt or can you get enough movement loosening the two which are readily accesible next to the breather.

Cheers Darryl

Re: Crankcase breather advice please

Your breather if original will be the disc on a post type which was superceded by a reed type breather whuich is generally considered to be better. On the disc type breather at least, even when it's functioning OK, it's not unusually to hear some noise on the last stroke of engine shut off. Honking...

Crankcase breather advice please

Hi, i am in the process of getting my 1980 R100RS back on the road again after it has stood for almost 10 years ( in a warm dry garage :) ) It had been fully restored and is in lovely condition having covered a genuine 55,000 miles. I have sorted all the brakes, flushed the tank and stripped the car...

Re: Bleeding Rear Brake on RS driving me crazy!!!!

A small trick to get the bleed nipples at 12 o'clock on the rear caliper. 1. Disconnect the torque arm from the caliper. 2. Loosen the axle clamp nut at the end of the swing-arm brake side. 3. Caliper should now swing to where the nipple is highest. 4. Proceed with bleed. Thanks Steve, Good idea, i...

Re: Bleeding Rear Brake on RS driving me crazy!!!!

If your rear brake lever is misadjusted, it could cause this problem by never getting the reservoir open to the line . Thanks my friend i think you are on the money ! :D I bought my RS after it had undregone a complete restoration ie engine out, frame stove enamelled and full respray. That took pla...

Re: Bleeding Rear Brake on RS driving me crazy!!!!

Hi and thanks. The lever is attached correctly and certainly seems to be travelling throughout it's full throw as i can see the arm on the master cylinder being moved
