Re: Here We Go - Trans Shimming Doubts

Ray, I used the same method ME109 did including the "wack with a soft mallet" to set the bearings. The first box I did has over 40k trouble free miles and both run cool and quiet. I can't view the manual file with my DROID, but you know as an engineer that manuals are written by non techni...

Re: Here We Go - Trans Shimming Doubts

So you shimmed by adding gasket thickness to the bearing pocket depth measurement then subtracted bearing height above the bare case for the gapped to be shimmed to 0.05mm? If gasket compresses .001" then there would be a reduction in endplay of .025mm, right? So wouldn't that have to be accou...

Re: Here We Go - Trans Shimming Doubts

My gasket thickness was .008" and you do have to allow for it. I don't think that the gasket would compress more than .001". I do know that once the box is up to operating temp it grows in size and translates to even more clearance because Aluminum expands at a higher rate than steel.

Re: Here We Go - Trans Shimming Doubts

I have been very successful rebuilding two boxes and factor in the gasket to allow .002" or .05mm clearance. I am a moldmaker and know how to measure precisely which is important when trying to achieve tight clearances. A measuring plate is very helpful and in my opinion necessary for tight pre...

Re: 5 speed bearings...

I just replaced mine about 1k miles ago with Koyo and they seem fine. My gearbox is staying cool and not whining so far.

Re: R65 Lever Pressure

I have a handlebar mounted 13mm MC on a single disc R90/6 and it works great. I used an R80ST brake line with no problems mounted on R90S bars . Well that's good to hear...thanks. Hoping to get at it in a few weeks to make the conversion and give it a go. I thought it was a 13mm, but it's actually ...

Re: R65 Lever Pressure

"I've got a 13mm MC from an 83 RT that I was going to use on another bike to convert it from under tank MC to handlebar MC. Was going to run SS brake line directly from handlebar MC to the single disc ATE... Think it will work? Curious as to what kind of "feel" I'll have at the lever?...
