Re: Tires

Wearing flat is more a problem with off road knobs, and hard high mileage tires like a Mitas E07. E07s last me around 3 times as long as most, but to get that you have to ride the last third on a squared off tire. IRC also have sensibly priced tires in Airhead sizes, and for me they work better than...

Re: Syncing carbs R100s

I have one of the electronic vacuum gauges, but can get them as close as the gauge will measure on full sensitivity by simply putting a fingertip on each butterfly lever and having someone twist the throttle. Actually you can get just as close single handed, with a bit care. Dont find it makes much ...

Re: Tubes For Tires...

My guy, who is a ex race mechanic, doesnt even use irons on most bike tires - he stands on the tire and inches backwards round the rim with his heels pushing the bead down with his heels. Sometimes this gets it fitted all the way, but if not he has a carpenters mallet which is beveled at one end and...

Re: Tubes For Tires...

Some folks find that these tubeless cross spoke rims loose air, suddenly, for no reason, at high speed, and after it happens once, just fit tubes to make certain it never happens again. The PO if your bike may have been one of them. FWIW I am one, and use Michelin heavy duty tubes which my dealer ha...

Re: 3rd Party Wheels...

Woodys Wheel works can lace up just about any combination of hub and rim that you can imagine. But with shaft drive and a rear drum you are going to have to use a factory hub . With a disk front there is not the same restriction, as long as you have the machine tools and the skills to use them, but ...

Re: Tires

Mitas still make the Conti twins and sell them under their own name. Mitas E08 / Conti TKC 70 have a modern road style carcass and rubber compounds and the E08s work great on my GS - like a cut slick and the only tire which I wear out two fronts to a rear.' Dunlop still make the TT100 in standard an...

Re: Front Armature Bushing Removal

Wobbly , starter bushes are made from self lubricating bronze, and need no further lubrication - your posts re lubing them are just on of the things that people have a good laugh at! Oilite was the generic name 90 years ago ,or google self lubricating bronze bush if you want to understand why they n...

Re: Just barely got me home

The connections on the solenoid can slacken too, and on some bikes the auxiliary power is picked up from the live side.

Re: Handelbars.

The more I read your posts the more I laugh. Pity, as some are provably meant to be serious. But we all owe each other a moral and legal duty of care - if we are going to give advice on anything which has potentially dangerous consequences we should be certain of our facts. And that same obligation ...

Re: Handelbars.

Race shop mechanics probably know enough to follow the instructions. Unlike internet know it alls. I also understand the complexities of working with complex aluminum alloys - it was explained to me by my father who worked for Rolls Royce when they were at the vanguard in developing them, and he sub...
