Re: BMW NEWEST - R NINE T CAFE RACER

ZM, which new HD motor has solid lifters? Even the motors with hydraulic lifters had adjustable length push rods.

Re: Removing Spark Plug Wires

Try twisting they counterclockwise. Some coils have a center threaded post that the HT cable "screws" down onto.

Re: R100S occasional sputter and idle issues. Coil?

Coils and plug caps usually show themselves under load not so much at idle. I vote for idle mixture being on the edge of being too lean and perhaps not quite the right balance between mixture and throttle plate opening at closed throttle.

Re: PICTURE OF YOUR BIKE/BIKES

It looks like a serious race bike. Check the intake angle compared to stock. Would love to see the rest of the damage.

Re: Cleaning an old master cylinder

Since you are not concerned with harming o-rings and seals, I would think anything that dissolves stuff like brake fluid would work. Acetone, mineral spirits, "brake clean", carburetor cleaner, etc. Once the crude is gone rinse in hot soapy water to get rid of any solvent residue.

Re: Sticking Brakes

Allowing time for the air to be absorbed into the brake fluid works to a certain extent as long as there is only a tiny amount of air in the system. However, this also lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid.

Re: Sticking Brakes

Putting a vacuum on the m/c will not pull air out of the system. Take a minute and look over the hydraulic part of the system. Is there any place where a bubble could be that it would have to go down to get to the m/c? With the R90S under tank m/c, air accumulates in the front end of the casting whe...

Andy, Just connect the two blue wires together bypassing the relay. I suggest a good solder joint with heat shrink insulation.

Re: Oil thread.

SteveD, that's a great schematic of the oil system of an airhead. However, there are two other oil passages that are missing from the drawing. I don't know if all airheads have them, but each cylinder spigot hole in the case has a tiny oil passage maybe 1.5-2 mm dia that runs down from the center of...

Re: '95 R100RT Hard Starting?? Needs choke for several minut

I'm guessing that the idle mixture is on the lean side. If, after riding the bike for 25-30 miles to get to full operating temperature, the idle speed goes up to 1200-1500 rpm that could be the problem. Readjust the idle with the engine at op temp and see it starting improves.
