Re: Rebuild forks?

Concentrate on synthetic fork oils and you shouldn't have any significant deterioration to the soft parts of the fork.

Re: Front Drum Lockup When Wet?

The "lock up" is caused by the friction material used by BMW. All you need to do is order a third party set of replacement brake shoes, like EBC or Emgo.

Re: NEW here

• I recommend disassembly of the m/c first so you can see what you have. If there is deep scoring, or rust pits, then it will need replacement. • The sizing on the R65 m/c bore is about right. • If you want the bike to really stop, then do these things... - Replace the OEM rubber brake lines with st...

Re: R75/7 Front Fork questions

Can't help with the internal parts, but will suggest you might want to try some synthetic fork oil in an effort to reduce sticksion and make internal parts last longer. You'll want a product like Bel-Ray 7W fork oil, or any synthetic between 5 and 10W.

Re: So I permanantly blocked my oil filter bypass

Will all your oil get filtered all the time? Presently all the oil doesn't get filtered all the time. Cold oil shoots past the by-pass valve anytime the oil is too viscous to pass easily though the filter. That's one of the valve's jobs. So why is this suddenly a concern ? Will your cooler...blow u...

Re: So I permanantly blocked my oil filter bypass

If I can source a filter built for 20/50, and it has at least the bypass function if not the anti drain back as well, will this be the ideal? I think cold 20/50 simply "pops" the bypass valve internal to the spin-on filter when the oil is viscous. However, new BMW and Triumph motorcycles ...

Re: So I permanantly blocked my oil filter bypass

I think most use standard NPT threads. NPT is a tapered thread and wouldn't work for obvious reasons. 3/4-10 UNC was by far the most prolific thread when doing my oil filter search years ago. I believe all these "after market" filter bases are going to use that thread. Also, what do you p...

Re: So I permanantly blocked my oil filter bypass

Not sure how big that filter is, and whether that size is equivalent to the filter area of the stock paper filter. And then there's micron size? How fine do auto filters filter? An older auto parts store that still has the paper books can answer your question. In the back of the older paper books i...

Re: So I permanantly blocked my oil filter bypass

I checked a parts supplier website and yes, the Mystic type cover is the one. Yes, and that's what you want. Full-time oil flow to the filter. The thermostat type cover only routes about 90% of the oil to the cooler becasue the internal shuttle really doesn't fit that tightly in the housing. That's...

Re: Hey Claude

But, the original cam chain tensioners were also known to be slack. When you get your new tensioner spring you'll see that the latest model spring is much stronger.
