OK. My 78 R100s is a "built in September 78" and has soldered connections there.
We need someone who can tell us about the years in between...

And remember the final drive ratios must be the same or your speedo will be only decorative!

My SNAB catalog "says" the part number for the R100RT, USA is 11 42 1 253 817 and that 11 42 1 337 198 will also fit. These part numbers are for a filter on a system that does NOT have an oil cooler. The book does not say which one might be hinged though. This is a 1983 edition of the book...

I took mine to an auto-rebuilder who specialized in rebuilding old (Beetle) VW starters.

Sure sounds like the speedo doesn't match the final drive...
