Re: Fork wipers

I would change to a synthetic regardless. Many of the fork internal wear parts are no longer available from BMW. They need to last as long as possible.

Yes it is. Nice guy, but between running the shop and being an AirMarshal for the ABC he seems completely worn out to me.

Re: Fork Gaiters

As a matter of fact I already own a new set of gaiters that came in a part collection buyout. While aware of the hazard of nicked chrome and the effect on fork seals, it seemed to me that the German chrome was miles ahead of the English stuff I usually work with. So I really hadn't thought about ins...

Re: UTT Master Cylinder pressure light

Recently went to look at a blue/ silver '83 R100RS on CraigsList with original paint. In the photos it looked excellent. When I got there the paint was completely screwed up on the lower RH fairing panel, inside and outside ! When asked about it he said the handlebar master cylinder had cracked open...

To me about the only parts on there you'd ever be able to sell or use would be the valve covers, starter, alternator and diode board. Not knowing the displacement rules out reaping any gain from the cylinders and heads. They might be icing on the cake, but you can't count on that . Also, working on ...

Fork Gaiters

The quote below came from another thread in response to a photo of my 1979 RT/RS. I thought it justified it's own topic thread.... Wobbly needs some fork gaiters stat. Although I worked at a BMW shop in the early 70's, I'm far from being a qualified BMW mechanic. And the missing 40+ intervening yea...

Welcome aboard, Wobbly. I'm enjoying reading your well written and informative posts. Thank you. ► One of my jobs as a research engineer was being a liaison to Marketing and explaining how new products worked. That led to a 5-year stint as a technical writer. That taught me a lot about writing for,...

...but also feel a bit guilty as I haven't even lifted the tank to have a look at the issue yet. My friend, you need to feel more than a "bit" guilty. You need to get down on that cold concrete floor, and prostrate yourself toward Munich. Total forgiveness can usually only be granted afte...
