yep, nothing, no click or turn, no dip in voltage.
I pulled the relay and cleaned the contacts. I haven't had time to take it for a ride since then.
The starter switch is clean and good.
I'll double check my grounds.
thanks

Re: gas mileage on a /7?
SteveD's suggestion is the most common cause with these bikes, so it's the first thing to check. BUT, since this idiot PO rebuilt the carbs, it's hard to believe that he did everything right. It's also possible that he made a large increase in the jet size. I'd definitely check to see if it still h...

Re: gas mileage on a /7?
Well, I'm bigger than you and I get in the mid 30's on my '77 R100/7 and '77 R100S. I don't pay close attention to my mileage and am always astonished at reports of over 40mpg--and there are many. In any event it seems to me that you should be betting better than 26 mpg, unless you have some very u...

Re: no starter when the bike is hot.
Hi Ken, yes, all panel lights come on as normal. The horn, headlight, turn signals all work in this condition. It's a 1977 R100/7 my master cylinder is a bar mount so it's not the issue. I pulled both of the relays that are next to each other and cleaned up the contacts. I found a marginal connectio...

gas mileage on a /7?
Howdy, I went for a ride this week after having a bunch of minor things worked on. The bike sounds great, feels great and is all in all fine. I'm getting about 26mpg on it. That seems kind of low. I am a big guy 6'3" 280 so that might be it but even then it seems low when I hear rumors of 42 - ...

no starter when the bike is hot.
OK, twice now I've had the bike not start after a ride. I'll stop to get gas, or take in the view. Get back on, press the starter button and nothing. It only happens when the bike is warm after riding. It starts the first time once it is cool. I put a meter on the battery, which I had recent problem...

Re: dry battery - trash it or charge it
what is the test for the charging circuit?
Does anyone have numbers related to RPM's that it should be putting out?
Do you just do a voltage check across the battery or a check across a load other than the battery?

Re: dry battery - trash it or charge it
I also have not checked the battery levels probably since I got it. My last battery was maintenance free...I didn't remember getting this one with fluid cells. It will be part of my regular checks for sure now.

Re: dry battery - trash it or charge it
I'll check out the charge circuit. Shouldn't it be outputting something around 14 volts?
