Re: Newbie: Are "Vintage" Tires Safe?
Hi and welcome. ► There are "vintage sized" tires, and then there are tires with the "vintage look". IMHO, you need to be very careful to differentiate between the 2. In decades past, tires sizes like 4.00-18 and 3.25-19 were extremely popular. Several manufacturers still supply ...

Re: Clutch Plate / Slip Disc
Wobbly - I was just joshing about Nm...actually that is the site I go to a lot to make my conversions. My memory says that 1 Nm is about 0.7 ft-lbs. Oh I know, and absolutely no offense or disparagement was meant by my response. Young people are too quick to ask for a group opinion or consensus on ...

Re: My 1989 R100RT is coughing once in first gear.
1989 USA models were under full control of the EPA and mandated to run on as lean a mixture as they could stand to meet the legal requirements in place at that time. They were so lean (and hot) that it really spelled the end of the Airhead engine. Thus the move by all makers to liquid cooling and co...

Re: 1977 R75/7 Started today after 14 years. One cylinder not working
Carb cleaner will remove any varnish, but will not work on corrosion. Corrosion can be removed by dipping a wooden toothpick into thinner and twirling it in the jet, but it may also increase the orifice size. Therefore, the best practice is to simply replace the #45 slow speed jet, needle, and needl...

Re: gas caps
All Airhead fuel caps are provided with vents, but not all these vents are in working order. As an example... Later models had little rubber flapper valves internal to the cap that were supposed to stop liquid spills (and thereby fires and pollution) in the aftermath of a lay down event. Those flaps...

Re: Clutch Plate / Slip Disc
What's a Nm? But yes, something like 15 ft-lbs is right. There are lots of metric conversion web sites available to help determine exact equivalents. Where a torque is given, it's best to assume that trouble will follow if not closely adhered to. I've been using this site for about 15 years.....

Re: Evasive /7 Generator Light Problem
Are you still using the OEM voltage regulator in the tin can ? Those are mechanical regulators with coils, springs, and contacts which can give up and/or come out of adjustment. They go bad all the time. There were several companies that introduced all-electronic regulators that are form, fit, and f...

Re: 1977 R75/7 Started today after 14 years. One cylinder not working
I agree with all the suggestions above.... also... ► Add new metal-core plug wires and new NGK 5K Ohm spark plug caps to the list. The OEM plug caps do go bad and are really hard to diagnose. It's like $5 for 2 caps, so it's really NOT worth the cost of putting it off. ► Is your fuel over 6 weeks ol...
