Got some of those. I'll see what I can learn. With electricity, I fumble a lot. But eventually I usually can tell what is going on if it is not too specific.
Tomorrow morning I have to go up to Orange County so I'll stop by Irv Seaver's and buy a spare if they have one in stock.

Re: Stinky boot
I have to admit that I'm stymied as to how to do a test with a test light since both wires are ground wires.

Re: Stinky boot
On the most recent trip I took on this bike, and it was a couple years ago - have ridden it only a few times since, I pulled off the neutral switch wires in an attempt to cure a stumbling problem. (It turned out to be a ground screw up at the coils had come loose which made the engine stop completel...

Re: Stinky boot
I determined that the carburetor does not leak at all. My boot stayed dry the whole ride....I was checking it.
The engine is super responsive and peppy. It does smell rich when I am stopped. Is it possible that that carb is richer than it is supposed to be?

Did she sing "Stop pretending that you like my head"? Chuey I'm not finding anything with that title, Chuey. As for the Divinyls, I kind of like their "noise". I must be a damn liberal, or sumpthin'. Rob, I'm pretty sure that's the line right before they show the RS. Chuey

Re: Stinky boot
I did take off the carb about a year ago and replaced the bowl gasket and needle. I also checked that the float was turning off the fuel as I recall. It has not been ridden much at all since then. Thanks to all. I will probably get a chance to work on it tomorrow and will report anything I find. Chuey

Re: Stinky boot
Seth, I did check the floats when I worked on the carb not but a few miles ago. But I did not check them that way. I will give that a try. I will probably use a vernier caliper that has the prong dealy that I can project into the bowl. Thanks. I'll report back on what I find. It may be several days....

Re: Stinky boot
Steve, I'm not sure I would know how to handle it if my boot/foot took off! I've already had a few rough landings.

Stinky boot
My 1982 R100CS had a problem with the right side carburetor. At speed, it would "weep" a bit of fuel from (evidently) the gasket between the carb body and the bowl. My right boot was what alerted me to that malady. The carb did not leak when the bike was standing still even if it was runni...

Re: Painting and pinstripe
That striping is by Grant Fowler. He goes by the handle "Grant Fowler" here - anything to be different!
And I agree with Ed. That gold color is so tasty. It's my favorite RS color by quite a bit.
