I need some help and advise on my front forks. Here is the back ground. When I first got the bike to get the axle to fit I had to slide the left fork up just a bit to get it to in there smoothly. Since I am installing the Toaster Tan top clamp with my dual disc set up I thought I would check out the left fork leg. Needless to say I had some issues and I had to take the inners out of the leg. What I have in my hand doesn't match the fisch, I seem to be missing stuff so I need some help in determining what is missing. The picture is deceiving in that it shows a bunch of parts under the spring that as far as I can remember are at the bottom of the tube. There also shows more parts that I got when I removed the end pieces from the bottom of the tube. Next issue is on item 14, the spring or whatever was on there got broken and I need to replace, again it shows more parts then were what was on top of it when I removed it.
Stuff that is different are:
bottom of tube I have 11 the clip, threaded ring 10, spacer 9 , another threaded ring and that is the end of those parts, missing 7 and 10.
On the top of 18, the pipe missing 13 those three rings, need 14 as the wiper is broken, then I just have another ring 9 and the spring 17, missing 15 and 16, same on both of them.

Re: Fork help needed
Check part listed as #7 on your diagram. This should be a nylon, or similar material, known as a "bush". Earlier parts were made of a hard rubber-ish material that was found to dissolve in more modern fork oils. It may be that one of your bush rings has deteriorated. It'll show up as a sludge in the bottom of the fork lower. If this is the case, you have found the reason for one leg being a bit longer than the other.

Thanks, there wasn't anything but sludge on the bottom. Did figure out what item 13 was after I saw some NOS Guides on e-bay with no rings on them, that is the part that broke. Figured that out just after I ordered a used damper on e-bay. At least I didn't spring for new ones and discovered that mistake.

Duane, please tell Neil to google it.Zombie Master wrote:Could you please explain what the "the Toaster Tan top clamp" is?
A TT top clamp does what my upcoming upside down lower clamp top brace will do. I guess that will make it the right way up again for you.
See, clear as mud.

The /7 lower brace makes a very nice top brace when machined and inverted. And it's a bmw part.Major Softie wrote:Looks sharp.
I'm going to make one for my RS.
Here's a link to an ADV thread showing some of the process.

Screw Duane, I highlighted the phrase from Neil's own post, right-clicked it and selected "search Google".ME 109 wrote:Duane, please tell Neil to google it.Zombie Master wrote:Could you please explain what the "the Toaster Tan top clamp" is?
