Looking at one of these,I;m thinking it's pretty much only suitable for wrecking. Offering owner $500 for it.
comes with a set of old Krauser hard cases which are in Ex Cond, I actually only want the Cases.
Are body parts / engine parts sort after for an 83 K100, should I have trouble shifting parts for this if I wreck it?
Bike hasnt been run for 6 years, ands been sitting in a humid rainforest location all that time.

How many miles? Those machines are pretty freakin' indestructible. The moisture has probably wreaked more havoc on the rest of the bike than the engine. If the mileage is under 150k or so, there's probably a lot of life left in that engine.

Not a whole lot because they last so long that most bikes are completely shot everywhere else before the engines die. Over 200k miles without any major engine work - even a valve job - is not that unusual. Certainly 150k miles without opening it up is common. Plus, what your market is like is a complete unknown to me.

Here in the Western U.S., I'd WAG you'd be able to get maybe $300 - $350 for such an engine if it's running fine. In unknown running condition, probably be lucky if you could get $200.

Bump...

I am a long time airhead who is looking for a commuter bike that can be parked on city streets. a recent in counter with a homeless knocking down my long time owned, two wheel nicely jugged Vila (much loved R100Cs) has made think its time to ride her less frequently or under less risky conditions.

I have a neighbor who has a 1983 k100 with 60k. It stopped one day when he was riding it. It cooled down and restarted and he rode it home. He left it under a tarp for last 2 years with 1/2 tank gas left in it. He wants to sell it for 1000. should I make a counter offer with the idea that I will be buying new fuel pump, tires, and resorting a wonky speedo.

thoughts?

I am interested in taking one into a new mod direction - vaguely into this.
