GEAR OIL LEVEL CHECK

Post by ibjman »

1998 R1100RT.
After some maintenance, I decided to just check the fluid level in the transmission & final drive.
Can't find a CHECK procedure anywhere. I know it takes .8 to .9 liters (.85) for a gear oil change.
But what about just verifying the level?
Should the trans oil be all the way up to the fill hole?
Can someone tell me from experience, after having actually changed the gear oil and adding the specified .85L,
how high is the final oil level relative to the fill hole????

Trans and rear drive, fill both to bottom threads of fill holes. When refilling rear drive, it helps to rotate the rear wheel as you dribble the lube into the fill hole. Apparently that helps distribute the lube to all of the nooks and crannys as otherwise it will tend to overflow before you have completed your fill.
