1968 R60US (Restored)

Post by Pstalboerger »

This 1968 R60US has been restored by 35 year BMW master tehcnician legend, Dale Lehnert.  Lehnert has been featured in Cycle World, and is a "Boxer Twin Believer" (as the article's title suggests) whose passion is restoring old boxers.

This R60US (matchng engine and frame # 1815824) was purchased in 2014 and has been fully restored.  Parts were either replaced with new ones from Germany, or reclad/redone here in the United States.

Engine: Always fires up easily on the first or second kick.  First over pistons and bore, new intake valves, new exhaust values, cam bearings, all new seals gaskets, new transmission bearings and seals, final drive ring gear bearing, valves, etc.

All new brakes, hand grips, wheel covers with shoes, stearing bearings, fork seals, boots, wheel bearings covers, new spokes, new tires.

Powder coated frame, axels are stainless steel, complete new exhaust and muffler.

The /2 model in 1968 was the first year BMW introduced the telescopic fork, which then became standard for /5's.  This model became famous for it's durability and longevity on tours across continents around the world.  The 1968 R60 was equipped with pins to include sidecars, while the R60US model was designed for single passengers and touring. The US models were often used as police bikes around the world, again because of of their rugged nature and durability.

The 34 HP engine classic boxer is known for its rugged and reliable features.  With just over 28,000 miles, this engine and bike is now stronger and better than ever.  Additional parts are availale for purchase upon request.

I have high resolution photos, and they were too large to upload. Click here for details:
