Great Rob!

Step 1. Familiarise yourself with new camera so as not to be distracted by it when riding. It is potentially worse than cell phone.

There is a chest strap available for mounting the camera well, on your chest. It gives a very good perspective of the ride.

The camera should have come with an editing suite? Being able to compress the file for faster upload to youtube is the thing.
If youtube is not a requirement for you, windows movie maker is another option.

The wi-fi back pack would make it difficult to mount the camera on your helmet where I have it, however on the side of the helmet or on top would work. It just looks stupid with a camera in those two positions imo.

Does your bike have a 12 volt aux outlet? If not, you could wire one in and use it to recharge your camera with a 12 volt usb charger.

An auxiliary mike might be required to eliminate wind noise, depending where you mount the cam.

Full HD is very high quality video, but brings huge file sizes with it.

Enjoy!

Hi Jeff - yes, there will be a lot of learning before I head out to Ken's in less than 2 months.

I don't think the chest mount would work for me on the traveling portion, as I will have my tank bag up under my chin.
But I did buy a suction cup mount, which will work on the fairing.
The front of my helmet does not offer a flat spot large enough to mount a flat mount. The side works great though, and I'm not too worried about looking like a dork. After 56 years I am starting to get comfortable with that definition. Heck! I bought the motorcycle in 1980 that put the "Ug" in "Ugly" (according to my Japanese motorcycle-riding co-workers at the time).

I didn't see any software in my box, nor any suggestions on where to get it on the GoPro website. That may be another difference between the Hero2 and Hero3.

I'm getting ready to go to the library to print off the users manual... (how cheap can some companies get?)

As this is the latest generation Hero camera, it does not require a WiFi back, it is built in.
I can either buy their remote for $70 (with the same size display as the one on the front of the camera - not big), or I can use my iPod, which gives a good preview of what the camera sees, albeit with a few seconds of delay.

Of course my bike has a 12v outlet - I used to ride a BMW silly! And I already have a battery charger made by Duracell that can either use power from a wall outlet or 12v, and besides charging batteries it has a USB port on it for charging miscellaneous electronics. I should be good.

Now for the warm weather.
I think I will run this thing as a dash cam in the car, as well. Good for insurance claims (but then I will have to start driving safer!).

Thought I'd read somewhere of a new editing suite for the 3. I may have read wrong.
Anyway, the 'cineform studio' free download from Gopro website is good to go for your camera.
Apparently the three has better audio than the 2, which is good.
Gopro user forums will have heaps of info on how best to use your camera.
