Oz Boxerworks Rally, September 2010

Post by SteveD »

In celebration of the new and improved boxerworks.com

Saturday Night, September the 11th, near Talbingo, NSW.

Lets get talking fellas...I've bought a tent! $40 from Aldi. I hope it doesn't leak.

As per Steve from Dubbo's suggestion: http://www.wildwalks.com/camping-in-nsw ... -area.html

The choices from my place, to and fro, up one day, back the next.

1. Via the Hume slab: 553 km – about 6 hours 47 mins

2. Via Mansfield/Whitfield/Yack/Corryong/Khancoban/Kiandra: 619 km – about 9 hours 24 mins

3. Via Mansfield/Whitfield/Yack/Jingellic/Tumbarumba/Cabramurra/Kiandra:645 km – about 10 hours 6 mins

4. Via Grants at Trafalgar/Cann River/Cooma: 756 km – about 9 hours 39 mins (630 from Traf, 8+ hrs)

Hey Grant.
How 'bout we do a loop? Anticlockwise, or clockwise using 2, 3 or 4 above?
Cheers, Steve

Big ride for Steve and Grant for an overnighter!
You guys need to allow for drinking time as well.
I reckon a good idea would be to organise some firewood from a local Talbingo supplier so that we don't have to waste time looking for it ourselves.
10 or 15 bucks each would cover it I reckon.
Still a good chance of being bloody cold at that time of year so some guaranteed warmth makes sense to me.
Looking forward to another get together !!

Gidday all. Damn, that's a long way, Steve and Grant. Better hope for the best weather.

Firewood idea is excellent, Jeff. I think you just nominated yerself for the job of organising the firewood, so I'll second that. Could you also book the Griffith netball and dancing girl team?

Jeff firewood yes please , big bloody hot pieces will do nicely!!and I'm in with the funds

Steve, yep a loop either way will be great, I have never been up into that country so anywhere will be good, we'll just watch the weather leading up to it and decide then I think?? and I hear those Aldi tents leak really badly and break up when frosty....

If you guys think a measly 700 k's is a long way, try riding from the subtropics into the arctic regions of NSW in the late winter!!!!! I'm already planning on making it. Looks like I might have to share accommodation with Steve when his Aldi tent shatters. Bring earplugs and don't bring baked beans!!!!!!!!!! I'm certainly in for the firewood.

Oh we're not crying...just trying to agree b/w us which way we'll go. I think you have it Grant. The weather can decide.
We don't need to decide until the night before I expect. If the weather is looking ok, I might go to my sisters in Morwell...then we could take off from there. I can drop thru, deliver the 3 goodies of yours I have and then you can check out the strides.

I'm wondering if we should rationalise some of the stuff we plan to carry? Charlie has the you beaut touring set up, but if we spread some of the load he might be able to lessen his cargo. eg...how many hammers do we need to set up a tent? One!

I'm gonna leave my hammer at home this time. I might take a bean bag instead tho' to sit by the fire.
