2011 Texas National Rally

Post by SuperDave »

2011 Texas National Rally
(not to be confused with the Texas National Motorcycle Rally which is a Harley event)

The San Antonio BMW Riders Association has taken the lead from
other Texas clubs in setting up this annual TEXAS no frills rally in
the Texas Hill Country.

This years dates will be April 8-10.

The rally will HQ in Llano,TX in Robinson City Park along the south
side of the Llano River just west of downtown on RR 152 ( 2 miles).

Llano is pronounced by the locals as LAN-NO! not YEN-NO! as the it's
pronounced in spanish.

GPS Coordinates for the park are N 30 44.942 W 098 42.333.

See more details at their official link.....

Last year from Boxerworks it was me, Lauren, Brad, Randy & Jack.
Hope to see you there.

I will be there. It was a good ride last year. Sadly, I suspect the flowers won't be due to no rain.

The flowers will be there, just not in last-year's abundance. I'll pitch a tent for Friday thru Sunday.
Sure looking forward it. No doubt, the weather will be mild and dry.
Last year there, I had a spectacular time. Lot of exploring Texas Hill Country back roads, great food, drink,
beautiful riverside park for camping. Lot's of BMW scooters to look over.
Cheers,
Randy

I will be there (on the R75/5), I have plotted a course that does not require ANY Superslab (from Galveston, Texas).
I am NOT a Camper, how far is it from the rally-site to the Motel?

I personally have had better nights camping than in a motel. Just like cold weather riding.. Gear is everything. What's the main drawback you're experiencing with camping and what might we need to bring to get you through it? PM if that's a question better asked offline.

To answer your question though....
The park on the left is where the rally will be, plenty of rooms near by.

I use my "Health Issues" for an excuse but really I'm just strung out on A/C and plumbing and I really! do not like sleeping on the ground (I've been this way forever).
I'm going to ride to Llano, this will be the first time in many years that I have RIDDEN to a rally.

Vince, you might try something in San Saba.
I'll try to find the name and phone of a couple of places if you are interested.

(scratches head)...why thirty miles from Llano, when there's several motels just a mile or two
from the rally site....

Here's a little thrown together local map of how to get to the Llano City Park. On the map on the link below, the city of Llano is about a mile down the road on the right of the map....

I was afraid everything would be filled up in Llano.
Most of the small-town hill-country motels fill up on the weekends this time of the year.

It'd be good day today to call ahead and make a reservation!

I've been out and about today north of Austin....the blue bonnets are out in force now. The roads into Llano
should be awash with color for our Texas BMW Rally.

Here's a few more picsI took last year. The second and third ones are at a old Catholic cemetery in Fredericksburg, Tx., a cool little town just south of Llano, about 40 miles distant.
