R75/5 Fenders

Post by hudson »

Hey guys! Quick question: I have a 1971 R75/5 SWB and was wondering if it the front and rear fenders can be swapped out with R75/5 LWB?

Thanks so much!

If my memory serves me correctly, the only differences between the SWB and LWB are the driveshaft and the rear swingarm.
This was to make the wheelbase a bit longer (1.5 inches?) on the later models for better high speed stability.

RealOEM says part number 46611234935 was used on R50/5 thru R90S in 1976. Now there may have been different internal stiffeners over the years which permitted slightly wider tires, especially if you wanted to go metric.

Ok Gents - sorry to bring this up again, but I found a rear fender and the seller is not sure it will fit my 71 R75/5 SWB:

Hey, just saw your offer and was about to accept it when I saw your message! I haven’t owned a SWB bike in 30 years but I’m actually pretty sure they had a shorter rear fender. The seat and subframe were definitely shorter. I recently saw a SWB seat on a LWB bike and it fell short of the rear subframe hoop by about 1.5. It’s also possible BMW didn’t change the part number. I’ll hold off on accepting your offer if you want to do some more research? You could try calling Beemer Boneyard or RePsychle or Blue Moon? One of those places should have both on hand to compare. Thanks!

So he has some reservations to sell but in my best interest, which I thought was cool. I was about to pull the trigger on this, but felt I should get your view on if this is truly a greenlight for purchase.

Thanks!
