Got Me A New Cheap Tent

This is for the discussion of Motorcycling. The art, the science, the theory of all things related to our favorite sport... riding motorcycles.

Very nice Charlie, and in fact I have seen some commercially-available products that look like what you've got in that lower image- except that instead of being made of tarp, they are made of lighter-weight tent-fabric...basically a large fly allowing some shade or dryness for your camping-spot. A few guys are employing such set-ups at the big annual BMW MOA rally up here, and you guessed it, they like to park their bikes under it.

This song is all about that...

Thanks Veg. Love the Booty song. Damn, I've got bits of it going around in my head now.

Re tarps - yep, I've been looking at the lightweight catenary tarps, made of 'silnylon'. There are sites on the net with DIY plans. One day perhaps, when that is the next thing to do.

Aldi m/c gear, sale starts 11 Aug.

Yeah, it's a tent thread, but it's an Aldi tent thread. Aldi are having bike stuff again in a coupla weeks.

The tank bags are excellent if anyone downunder hasn't got one.
Beware the zippers in the boots as they've been rubbish. However I sent a pair to Roy Gavin 5 years ago, and he just told me this week that after 200000ks they're kaput. Not bad for $70.

How much does it weigh?

Packed size?

How many vestibules and doors?

Lotsa questions ZM!

Weight? Dunno. It's made of sturdy stuff though.
Magnetic, but also comes with straps. Magnets are decent strength.
Multiple vertical compartments, without being a skyscraper. Detachable etc. Map pockets on top of each compartment.
Converts to carry bag! or knapsack via straps.
Also has an inbuilt weather cover, easily tucked away. In use, it tends to flap a bit unless the whole bag is full.
A smallish lateral compartment either side, and a smaller two at the seat end. They're detachable and can be used as a bum bag. They also have those nifty outlets for earphones etc..

For the price, they are feature packed and resilient.

An even cheaper tank bag ...

Post by Sunbeem »

A few days ago, I was just setting off for a ride when the Harley guy who lives nearby waved me down.
He was holding the same tank-bag SteveD mentioned, and asked if I wanted it.
I said I'd never used one, but it looked very useful, and unused -- so, yes please.
Perhaps the gods have decided to send me on another journey ...

Sunbeem.

PS. There's a warning about placing the magnets within 6inches of any sensitive electronics, and the box at the rear of the tank is not much further than that, as are the coils. I think the straps are secure enough to dispense with the magnets.
One day more -- one day less.

I think the magnets work a treat. No straps to abrade and need adjusting. Removal is instantaneous. And I would think you'd enjoy the free magnet therapy. Might invigorate ye old Johnstone.
