What are the correct tire pressures for a 1979 R100RT?
I have two questions relating to tire pressures: 1. What is the correct tire pressure I should use on my tires for riding solo with little to no luggage? My owner’s manual says 27lbs front and 29lbs rear, but Snobum says pump modern day tires a lot higher than that – 34 and 38. What is the correct t...

Re: Question about mirrors on a 1979 R100 RT
Konrad,
Thanks for your input about this. I will try to re-order the later style mirrors!
Jean, am unable to see a part number on the mirror.
Thanks,

Question about mirrors on a 1979 R100 RT
I have a 1979 BMW R100RT that I have owned since new. I remember that when I got the bike, it came with rear view mirrors that I would describe as being fairly small. Then, a year or two later – maybe in 1981 or 1982 – the RT’s came from the factory with slightly larger mirrors and a different mount...

Re: Rear shocks on a 1979 R100 RT
I'm not sure how to tell if the shocks are seized, but when the mechanic moved the back of the bike up and down, there did not appear to be any movement. Plus, when I rode it about 2 weeks ago, it was an awful experience - it felt so hard and it was shaking. At first I thought that it was my tires, ...

Rear shocks on a 1979 R100 RT
Hello again everyone! I have a 1979 R100 RT that was in storage for over 10 years. I took it in to a BMW dealer today to have my new Shinko tires fitted and the mechanic said that after test riding it, he found that the rear shocks (which are the original shocks) are seized. He suggested and they ha...

Re: Shinko tires and angled valve stems
Thanks for the comments so far about different brands of motorcycle tires, including Shinko. Does anyone have any comments about where I can find tubes with angled valve stems?
Thanks guys, hope to hear back from you!

Shinko tires and angled valve stems
Folks, I have two questions today please: 1. Has anyone had any experience with Shinko motorcycle tires? I have seen them online and have read mostly positive reviews from motorcyclists across the board, including BMW owners. I like the tread pattern and they definitely are a lot less expensive than...

Re: R100RT generator light stays on dimly as revs go up
Just wanted to report to everyone that I did jump the terminals in the plug and the generator light stayed on. It did start dimming slightly as I increased the revs, but the light didn't go out completely and remained fairly bright. So, with the voltage regulator eliminated as a possible problem, I'...

Re: R100RT generator light stays on dimly as revs go up
Kurt, here is a photo of the plug. As you can see, there are only blue and brown wires, not black. So do I jump the two blue wires at the base of the pyramid, the one side of which has one blue wire going to the terminal, and the other side of which has two blue wires going to the terminal? Having a...

Re: R100RT generator light stays on dimly as revs go up
Jean, thanks for your input. I removed the tank and located the voltage regulator on the right side, it's kind of below the brake fluid reservoir. I then pulled out the black plug from the "silverish" regulator. You said to connect a jumper across the blue and black wire terminals in the p...
