Re: R75/6 ignition points problem

Yes, electronic ignition is the most efficient fix for this problem. The cost of a CDI is actually cheaper than replacing the centrifugal advance unit last time I checked. One of the stories I remember from my earlier BMW days ( @1977-78) were so called BM gurus and know-it-alls telling me than the ...

Re: almost a convert

My mate picked her up a couple of days back, put her on the ferry, and rode it back home. He loves it, fuel injected, watercooled and all!!!!! Compared to his battered old 75/7, twice the power, handles better, much better brakes, less drive train slop and rattles. It starts in sub zero temperature, ...

almost a convert

I picked up a 1985 K100 rs ( minus fairing) for $1200 AUD, and stored it for a mate of mine. After buying it a new battery, I took her for a testride, and nearly considered keepeing it. :D . It goes, it brakes, it corners, and everything works like it supposed to. A polish and general tidy up made i...

Re: 84 R100RT

Motobins in the UK is a good source for parts ( not sure where you live) Great website and lots of spares at good prices. I would leave the air filter sysstem as is, for good reason. Hopped up motors and fair weather bikes may benefit, but for all round riding the stock sysytem is best. Does restora...

Re: Re -using parts

Things happened sooner than I think. The heads I had done up less than 10,00 k's ago decided to drop the valve seats out on the left side a couple of days back. Pulled it down to find the valves bent and piston crown pretty dented. I tried contacting the machinist, but still no answer. Not much else...

Re: BMW Concept 101

Not sure about targeting well off divorcees.....they all looked gay to me, and that leather work stuff didn't convince me otherwise. I've gotta start hanging around with some real men, like those cool dudes on Triumphs and harleys...

Re: Re -using parts

Thanks for the feedback. The thing is, I live in the middle of nowhere, and do all my own work normally ( it NEVER sees a bike shop). I've never used bolts more than once, and wondered whether or not it was a BMW thing to get you to buy more spare parts instead of recycling??? I need my bike for wor...

Re -using parts

On a previous thread I was tossing up about fitting O/S rings etc, and am curious about what the workshop manuals say about re-using bolts, etc. I really don't want to use my brand new bolts and gaskets trying something that may or may not be successful. So.....is it actually feasible to re-use con-...

Re: fitting 1st 0/S rings

Thanks for the feedback :) I'm not sure if the minute amount that will be filed off the 1st oversze rings would make them oval, but the bores are probably not 100% round anyway after all those miles....I'm trying to get around having them bored because the only machinist here in Australia that I wou...

fitting 1st 0/S rings

I read some time back on another site that it was possible to fit 1st O/S rings onto standard pistons by filing the end gap down. This can be done when the standard bore is on the limit and you don't want to risk a rebore on the pre nikasil steel lined 1000cc bores. Has anyone out there done this, a...
