Re: Two questions.
All of this makes total sense to me, with the exception of the off-road thing. That ain't happenin'. There are varying levels of off road RSing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1oroDxVUOk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSShJLs48U4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQUb8QOWfYk https://www....

Re: Two questions.
I There are airheads, and there is the RS. There are motorcycles, and there is the RS. The RS (my '81 at least) is a totally competent on and off road machine. It is a totally competent sports bike in the tight mountain twisties. It can be loaded like a camel and still do 180 down the dirt. And I c...

Re: Two questions.
I went a different, admittedly less sensible route to my RS purchase: I have wanted one since high school (mine came off the production line in my freshman year), so I bought one almost on impulse because it was nearby. With such an impulsive decision, I knew that I would have to make certain conces...

Re: Volt meter questions
Ken, there is a little slop in the "LO" detent, and if I don't have that switch on the proper side of it, the voltmeter reads low(er). It does the same with application of the brakes, and swings vigorously back-and-forth when signaling turns. I read the voltage at the battery posts, and th...

Re: R80 - Air Leaking from Right Rocker Cover
I trued up a pair of Subaru cylinder heads with 320-grit paper contact-cemented to a thick piece of glass lubed with WD-40. Followed the 320 with 400-grit, and checked my work with a Starrett straight edge & feeler gauges. It worked great, and still seems to.

Re: Volt meter questions
My voltmeter reading fluctuates based on what part of the "LO" position my headlight switch is in, and it reads about a volt low according to a Fluke 116.

Re: How Do I Time This Thing?
Timed it-- tried to-- with a Snap On timing light today & all was completely unintelligible when I tried to set it for 3000 RPM. It backfires when I close the throttle, so I know something ain't right, but after two months on the lift, I'm gonna have to live with it for a bit. Too many years sin...

Re: How Do I Time This Thing?
Thanks Barry. One thing I noticed that's troubling me is the position of the bean can now: it's at the limit of its CCW adjustment travel, whereas when I pulled it initially it was at 3/4 CW travel, and the bike seemed to run fine. I would like to complete the timing process at this point because it...
