Re: Oil Level (Not an Oil Thread)

Finally had the guts to fill the /6 with Mobil 1 V twin oil. All the seals on the old motor had been replaced. My perception is that I am using less oil. Totally unsubstantiated logic is that it foams less therefore blows less out the vent. Anyway the good news is it isn't leaking from every engine ...

Re: Muffler Recommendation?

back to the muffler question. I put mac whispertone mufflers on my 90/6. They are louder than I like. Bike didn't run quite right either. Went to the Bing seminar at Billings and they suggested I go up one size on the needle jet, of course they had them for sale. It really did improve the performanc...

Re: Piston Upgrade to a R75/5?

I guess I am a little cautious, but why bore out for more than the 1st over pistions? I would want to conserve all the metal I could in case something happened and it had to be done again. Would you really get that much more oomph out of R80 pistons? I used to have an R75/6 and it seemed to carry me...

I found it

Some owners find that the points plate is rotated to one end of adjustment and still the timing is off a bit. Try setting the point gap a bit smaller or larger to compensate. If you are still within .012" and .020" it will still work perfectly. You may need to remove the points plate and w...

Re: points closing up after 100 miles?

thanks Duane, that is what I finally figured out. And after enlarging the slots I was finally able to get the timing perfect at full advance. It did make a difference in fuel mileage and the old bike runs great at 70-75 mph. I used to go on reserve at 170-180 miles, now going over 200 miles before g...

Re: points closing up after 100 miles?

Just a dumb idea is suppose, but is it possible your centrifugal advance unit may be slipping? I know that mine has a lot of slop in it and I have to be careful to have it in the same place when I snug up the nut. Timing would be way off if it slipped counter clockwise if the nut wasn't tightened co...

Re: Tubed tyres behaving tubeless.

Interesing idea. Wonder if it is possible to plug a tire and hold some air pressure long enough to get to a convenient place for repairs?
I do remember seeing someone selling a conversion for tubed (spoked) wheels to run tubeless. It was on the internet so you can be sure how it would work.
