Re: Remember my "Interesting Bike" thread?

I sold my 1992 XT600 and got the R65 mono to set up for the same roads. I used the XT600 as my benchmark, and didn't sell it until I was happy with the R65 on gravel.

Re: More low and midrange. Chuck in your theories/opinions e

Find out what BMW did to the R65 Mono - it lost 2hp to the LS at the same rpm,but peak torque was lowered from 6,500rpm to 3,500rpm. It has a lot more bottom end than the LS,with a pretty good top end too,it pulls a taller final drive to the LS,so acceleration is down.

If they were a problem they would order every week and have 3 sets in stock. As has been mentioned, they are the wrong bolts and someone has cranked them too tight.

Re: Sequential shifting question for the cycle racers...

Sequential automotive racing gearbox -vs- BMW box - WHAT IS THE DESIGN DIFFERENCE THAT MAKES THEM BEHAVE DIFFERENTLY? Perhaps it would be better for you to compare an automotive sequential racing gearbox with a motorcycle sequential racing gearbox.Airheads are touring motorcycles - apples with appl...

Re: Spark plug indexing

Taking anal to a new level - stop wasting time on this stuff and go out and trim your lawn with a pair of scissors,I'm sure there are a couple of blades the wrong height.

I use Bosch Plus 4's - they are self indexing.

Re: One red sparkplug

Used to see red plugs many years ago on certain types of fuel, back when additives were all the rage....Caltex Boron etc.But that would be all plugs, not one.Deposits on the porcelain are usually additives,in oil or fuel....inlet leak?

Re: what's wrong with the ignition on this cylinder?

This was very common on British twins with a magneto. The points rotated on the armature, and the cam ring was external. It didn't take much play in bearings, misaligned housings or damaged points taper to make a big difference in timing per side. The worse I had was 10 deg on a Lucas, the best 2 deg with...
