Rattling Bing Flat Tops

My right hand carb rattles, at large throttle openings above 4000 rpm it can be quite unnerving. I have a 1979 R80/7 with a sebenrock 1000 cc conversion which runs on 32mm flat tops. It never rattled before the conversion. I have put in brand new slides but the rattle persists . I am trying to ignor...

Re: E5/E10 Petrol

I mostly run on E5 which I buy at my local Tesco where it is only 8p per litre more than E10, in other places it can be as much as 20p a litre more, in which case I switch to E10. There is a difference in fuel consumption of around 10 % so price matters. However be wary at remote rural country filli...

Re: Loss of compression

So far I have covered 100 miles despite the cold weather, checked the clearances today and no change also checked heads bolts which are also good. Will keep an eye on ( ear really ), a change in engine note will give it away. If the valves are rattling the engine is running.

Re: Loss of compression

Thanks you all for your concern and informative response, I have suffered VSR in the past when decide to run my 1200 VW beetle on lead free fuel, it lasted 20,000 miles but then it dropped a valve on the motorway, the valve head went through the piston crown and wrecked the inside of the engine. I l...

Loss of compression

I have been having trouble starting my r80/7, nor will it idle on the right side. I eliminated the carbs by swapping right to left, turns out the tappets had closed up on the right side causing a loss of compression, the left side is good 150 psi with a flat zero on the right. I am naturally concern...

Re: Oil filter filling

With my car I remove the fuel pump fuse so I can build up the oil pressure after a filter change

Re: Today in the shed you did...

I put the compression tester on my r80/7, a lovely 150 psi on the left and a flat zero on the right, this is I suppose is why the right side wont idle, I wish I had done it 6 months ago would have saved a lot of hassle. Took off valve cover and the tappets had closed up completely stopping the valve...

Re: Breaking News - My Breaks Dont Work

To me sounds like an air leak, I replaced all the brakes lines on my twin ate brakes, I got the parts from the local auto shop ordinary copper brake pipe and I used the flexibles off an Audi 80 . I did find it difficult at first to bleed the system I found covering the port on the master cylinder wi...

Re: 1980 r100rt electrical gremlins..

Unlikely to be the stator but not impossible, my stator did burn out, the replacement solved the problem. I have owned many multi meters none went above 20 kohms.

Re: Sieberock Big Bore kit

Just been out on what may well be my last run of the year, certainly will not be out for a couple of moths. I have to say the siebenrock is really going well. I went over Cairn O Mount a very popular run in this area, N.E. Scotland, 90 mile round trip very enjoyable . So now its parked up in the gar...
