Re: petcock spring
If it was my bike, to do with what I wanted. I think I would strip it down to the frame and take care of all the little things that should really be addressed, but I can only do what I can do. The neighbor who owns it wants to sell it and she is firm that she wants 3k for it. I don't know how these ...

Re: petcock spring
Now to the bad news... an overfilled final drive is sometimes caused by oil migrating from the drive shaft void to the final drive. This is caused by failure of the oil seal in the final drive and/or by overfilling of the drive shaft void. This, in turn, can be caused by oil migrating from the gear...

petcock spring
I'm continuing to work on a '77 R100RS. I have it running now (a video will post to my channel tomorrow). Still some things I'm trying to figure out though. After a ride to show it to some fellow vintage motorcycle enthusiasts, it started leaking gas again. The spring behind the petcock lever looks ...

Re: 1977 R100RS - brake and electrical questions
I got a new relay finally and now believe someone had it wired up incorrectly. I diagramed what I have so I could compare it to the wiring harness in the clymer manual. Everything on the starter relay makes sense and looks right (except the green wire which is supposed to be red), but I think someon...

Re: 1977 R100RS - brake and electrical questions
thanks for response. I've been studying things and I think the relay may be the issue. Power is supposed to go through the ignition to the button. When the button is pressed, it allows the power to flow through the relay to ground. This energizes the coil creating a small electromagnet that closes t...

Re: 1977 R100RS - brake and electrical questions
after studying the wiring diagram I'm, if anything, more confused. If I understand the relay operation, when you press the horn button on the switch gear, it completes the coil circuit in the relay, which closes the gate and allows battery power to flow to the horn. Power can't get to the horn butto...

1977 R100RS - brake and electrical questions
Hello, I am helping a friend get her '77 R100RS running and rideable so she can sell it and I have run into a couple issues. First off are the brakes. The brake fluid was pretty grim so I pulled the calipers and took them apart (a link to a video about the bike is below). I expected to find the pist...

Re: Introduction '72 R75/5 & '66 R60/2
You didn’t mention the basics. Check the points gap and valve clearances. When they heat up, they close up. I checked the points gap when I set the timing. I posted a video about doing so to you tube on my channel. While true that I haven't checked the valve clearances yet (waiting to get the nod f...

Re: Introduction '72 R75/5 & '66 R60/2
When the bike loses power again, quickly (and safely) reach down and loosen the gas cap. You could be developing a vacuum in the tank under high demand. Kurt I'll keep this in mind and if other things don't work, I'll give it a shot, but the fuel level is so low that I can't imagine it would create...
