I just bought the special 5th gear from Ted. I rebuilt the tranny myself.

Bad noises from my Tranny

Hello All, Just reassembled my R100GS. Put in the new rebuilt tranny with all new bearings, and the "long" 5th gear from Ted Porter. The transmission turned smoothly and shifted through all gears before installation. It shifts perfectly and runs smoothing through all 5 gears on my initial ...

Re: Hall Effect Sensors

Just FYI, years ago I added a second sensor inside my bean can. Have never needed it (put 2 new ones in when I did it), but check every couple of years to make sure the "spare" is still working. I bought 10-12 of them from Newark at the time, about $12 each, I think. Have given them all aw...

Re: Using an oilhead tach on my '92 GS

Hmmm, problem. Good news- engine is back to running. Bad news- neither tach shows any RPM. Now I'm wondering if it is a wiring or other problem. Is there an easy way to check, using a digital volt meter, if the tach signal wire is getting anything from the electronic ignition? Or a way to put some v...

Re: Stainless muffler for R100GS?

Thanks guys. I weighed them- both within a few ounces of 10 lbs. I think I'll keep using the plain steel on that's on there, save the stainless for a spare, and sell the "other" plain steel one. Not sure how I ended up with so many...

Stainless muffler for R100GS?

Hi, it seems stupid, but I've collected 3 different final exhaust mufflers for my GS. All BMW original, all have same part # stamped on them. All appear in similar very good condition. One of them is stainless steel, confirmed by "stainless steel" stamped on the unit, and it isn't magnetic...

Using an oilhead tach on my '92 GS

The tach on my GS crapped out a few months ago. 2nd or 3rd time an airhead electronic tach has failed for me. Don't really want to spend the money to have it rebuilt, as don't really consider it essential, just sort of interesting info. But, I have a working tach from a '03 R1150RTP, and low and beh...

Re: Output Shaft Seal for '92 GS

Thanks, I get it. I sort of miss the old seals with the spring. And if you don't know which way round that is you probably shouldnt be taking gear boxes apart And not sure I really appreciate or need anyone to tell me what I "should" do on my bike. I already had a mother. The incredible va...
