Re: Aftermarket steering dampers

I've always wondered why they went to so much trouble to fit a piece of equipment that doesn't work properly on a bike that doesn't need it. Not in my experience. My /7 writhes like a big snake when hitting mounds and potholes mid-corner, and I've hit some big ones hard enough that I thought it was...

Re: /7 cylinder & piston compatability

Well, 1977 was special for some bikes but not all of them. The 77 RS and "S" bikes were available with high compression big valve heads and squish band pistons, some with 40mm exhausts and some with 38's. You'll want to either check around to see how your plain jane bike was configured or ...

Re: head disassembly

The best way to make the different castings look similar is to assemble the engine, put it in he frame and ride the bike for 5 to 10 thousand miles.

I installed new Nikasil cylinders on my clean engine and thats how long it took to mend everything together. 5K miles.

Re: Flat to round air filter conversion

I had a K+N round filter in my R90 but when I rebuilt the bike I gave it away.

Theres simply no way I'm going to invest big $$$$ into my engine and then install a K+N foam non-filter. I might be crazy but...

Re: John Surtees petition for knighthood

You guys have to be kidding...! One of the several reasons that Americans revolted against England in the first place, was the European peerage system that somehow raises a few folks above the rest, giving them special privileges and access to property and power. So... You're telling me that becaus...

Re: Expresso front wheel rebuild

Here is a soda blaster on the cheap for those little jobs, can be used on carburators and possibly other small parts. http://www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/ I used that method a couple of times with surprisingly good results. I helps to be able to buy the 5# boxes of soda tho...

Re: Battery cables

Thanks Ermille, Don't worry, you'll get that bike running right. These things old bikes are just adult puzzles! You're also correct. The switches that I am using are expensive. In fact, they're so expensive that the cost to buy and stock the switches alone, wipes out the idea of making real $$ on th...

Re: Battery cables

Back in the 80's I found an extremely high quality heavy duty switch that fit perfectly behind the battery box on my /6 and was heavy enough to handle the electrical loads with ease, so my friend Dell Ward made up some cables for me and we installed it between the negative terminal and the ground lu...
