Probably is OEM.
No BMW dealer in my area.
My mechanic orders parts from a BMW dealer in another city.
It is actually quite remarkable that BMW still provides parts service on a 28 year old product.

Re: 1984 R-65 clutch cable failure
Nothing to align.
The clutch lever assembly directs the cable straight into the attachment point.

1984 R-65 clutch cable failure
Since you guys had the magic answer to my previously posted charging system problem, I'll throw another one at you. Third clutch cable in 4000 miles. They are failing adjacent to the lever, about 1/2 from the grab lug. Subsequent to my last replacement, I have been super lubricating the area, but is...

Re: R-65 Today's Charging system frustration
Thanks for the follow up inquiry. I am experiencing a charging system problem and not an ignition problem. It appears I have been operating on battery charge alone, and when the battery loses all potential, the cycle stops. The 13.7 v. was measured prior to the lamp failing. At that time I replaced ...

Re: R-65 Today's Charging system frustration
Wow ! Who would have ever thunk of one little indicator bulb? The previous bulb only lasted 28 years, so I might just try to see what happens without using the resistor. Wishful thinking, and I hope it works because the thought of having to pull the tank, front engine cover and whatever else is need...

R-65 Today's Charging system frustration
Sorry if this problem sounds duplicative, but here it is.... 1984 R-65 42,000 miles Recently installed new battery....Odessey Brand...seems to be working fine. Red generator light has ceased functioning during the present electrical problems. 13.7 volts at 3000 RPM into partially charged battery Cur...

Ethanol fuel effects on R-65
I live in Missouri and our rural controlled Legislature has mandated 10% ethanol content in all regular fuel. By statute, ETOH is optional in premium fuels, but in my area there is only one petroleum retailer selling ethanol additive free fuel. I have nothing against ethanol, I like to drink the stu...

Re: Sidestand "ouch" damage 84 R-65
I appreciate the continued great advice. The lead mechanic at the independent shop has many years of experience as a BMW mechanic and previously was service manager at a BMW dealership. His scheduled maintanance program does in fact include loosen the star nuts from the cylinders and reinstall the p...

Re: Sidestand "ouch" damage 84 R-65
It is possible that the tabs on the frame were bent. There are two, and the end of the stand slides between them. Check that out. Good call! The shop did a visual inspection and the problem indeed is in the area of the pin/bushing that attaches to the frame. The stand arm is noticably bent in that ...
