Re: Valeo starter not engaging question....

Yup. More than 12.5 V.

I'm beginning to suspect the planetary gears in the starter motor...

Has anyone heard of them stripping out after literally the second use?!?!

Re: Valeo starter not engaging question....

Yeah, thanks. I'm trying to upload a video I took, but it's not working...:/ Any quick tips on doing that?

So why would the teeth all the sudden not engage?

I do have another airhead (:)) of course, but it's a 1977 and from what I can tell it's a 9 tooth...I need a 8 tooth in the 1975....oh bother.

Re: Valeo starter not engaging question....

Thanks: engine turns freely (thank God).. I rechecked the starter on the 'bench' a.k.a flipped it over while attached to the bike, and the gear shot out and spun up like I think it's supposed to... I plugged things back in and retested to see if the starter would spin the flywheel/engine: no go. It ...

Re: Valeo starter not engaging question....

Thanks. I Have the eight tooth in both the stock Bosch starter and the new crappy-Valeo. I hope I can sort this out tomorrow, but ridiculous to think I spent $300 and too much time replacing the Bosch starter whih functioned for 80k miles for one that worked for two starts...geez...

Re: Valeo starter not engaging question....

Yes, it has eight. With it installed, it seems to touch the flywheel, but not rotate it. I view the flywheel from the timing hole and it moves slightly when I try to start it... It's like the starter gear is not engaging the flywheel... How can this be? Especially when the bike started 10 minutes be...

Valeo starter not engaging question....

I'm hoping you all have some advise. I just put my 1975 r90/6 back together after a new top end and brand new Valeo starter. Went to start it and the starter worked for the first 5 minutes. I tried after a couple minutes of rest and it sounded like the starter bendix/gear was not engaging. Very frus...

Re: points closing up after 100 miles?

well, thanks for all the chatter here:)

I threw my Dynatek 3 system on there and seems to be okay...

Silly question maybe: Should I swap the stock spark plug caps for 5000 Ohm caps now that I'm running electronic ignition, or is that for bikes that came stock with elec. ignition....?

Thanks!

points closing up after 100 miles?

Hi All, Something that has been bothering me for a while now... '75 R90/6 with 75K on her. I have replaced the points twice in the last year. Currently the bike runs great, but I'll go about 100 miles and the bike will sputter and die for no real reason. I go straight to the points and see that they...
