Re: 73 R60/5 Ignition trouble...Please Help!!
This sounds like a wiring problem, most likely between the 12 vdc power coming in to the first coil, and the points. There are 6 spade connectors in this path, and the problem is likely in or around one of those connections. A crushed wire is also a good possibility. My suggestion - remove the front...

Re: problem with spark
I'm still running original coils on my R75/5.
However, I've had this problem. The connection from the points to the condenser was slightly loose. Clean and tighten fixed it.
Let us know what you find out.

Re: The Water-cooled Boxer
I did mean hideous looking motorcycle. Like most of the oilheads, it looks like the styling inspiration came from a Borg space station. I wish BMW would go back to "form follows function" styling, left behind with the /7s, although the early Ks were pretty good.

Re: Front tires on the rear?
I've done this, and it's high on the list of "Dumb Things I Have Done". A couple of years ago, I ordered a pair of Dunlop D404s from the local Honda dealer, ordered as a front and rear pair with sizes corresponding to the original 3.25 x 19 and 4.00 x 18. I installed and balanced these, no...

Re: notchy bearing blues
I've done this job a couple of times on my R75/5. Cleaning and re-greasing was all that was necessary, and it's not that hard a job. On the centre stand, remove the top triple clamp and drop the forks a few inches. The top bearing pops out easily, and the bottom bearing can be cleaned in place with ...

Idle mixture screws - turn each one out an eighth to a quarter of a turn.

Re: Stumble, hard start, and backfire...
I've had this problem, and in my case, it was caused by one of the crimped connections on the capacitor (condensor) getting slightly loose. There was nothing wrong with the capacitor itself, but current to the points was intermittent, and that certainly was a problem.

Re: Quick and easy one, hopefully.
If anyone is interested in being tracked, my company has developed tracking software for Blackberry and Android smart phones. These devices have GPSs and can also function as personal navigators. To get back to your original question, the R75/5 has a 180 watt alternator. Average load, including a ha...
