Re: 1987 R100RT overhaul
Where are you located? US market 1000cc Monolever bikes should all have 32mm carbs. That said, the heads for 40mm carbs are slightly different and it's possible that along with the dual plugs the PO wanted to make some mods. I have an R100/7 with 32s and an R100RS with 40s and I actually prefer the ...

Re: Idiot v. Motorbikes, Rounds 3, 4, and 5
I have actually been riding a bit at night lately after taking up West Coast Swing dancing. Strictly commuting and keeping it to slab when available after dark because we have deer ALL OVER here. Like this one in my front yard: https://photos.smugmug.com/Animals/i-VDC29NR/0/KWnJbvVmP6Mxr5F22SsPpDJ2x...

I've had no issues getting my street-tired bikes to any sensible dirt road destination, like a hiking trailhead and the like: https://photos.smugmug.com/Adventures-2019/i-2TJwdXq/0/LxhMzMc4SrCsfRK9mmfRqnNq9WShc8jhKJJsbR7QV/XL/299Falls051520191-XL.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/Adventures-2019/i-jvdp...

Re: over size piston rings
Yes, you'll be filing the rings to proper spec for end gaps. 1st OS rings will overlap in a standard bore.

Re: Daily ride
No, don't worry about overheating. Especially if you make a point of filtering in stopped car traffic as much as possible.
I've done colossally daft things in high temps lugging my Airheads up steep dirt roads (lots of load on the motor and no airspeed to cool things) and had no problem whatsoever.

Re: spring or no spring
Some of them do have it and some of them don't.
My dome top #64 carbs (32mm) don't have the spring but my #94 carbs (40mm) do have the spring.

Re: Better than an oil thread...
All four of my bikes are 1975 to 1979 and I like that as far as keeping spares about. My son had a stripped down 1986 R80RT Mono project for a while (before he came to his senses and bought an SV650SF!) and the electrical and instrumentation and controls looked all foreign to me. The transition to M...

Re: 1975 R90/6 high idle after carburetor rebuild
Glad this is resolved! I actually like the grub screw and made a point of adding it to a bike that didn't have one. I have mine set to hold position with my hand off the grip and it reduces fatigue on a long day (500 miles is not unheard of in my travels) and makes me a smoother rider going through ...
