Re: Idiot v. Motorbikes, Rounds 3, 4, and 5

Yeah, bit of a slow winter as far as bike progress goes. Ernst is still in pieces and Edgar has just been a local errand and day trip bike. This summer I should have HVAC in the big shop which will make life so much better in there. Edgar was grounding (lightly) the sidestand in left turns. I had a...

Re: ethanol CH3CH2OH

When I lived on the coast in a place about as wet as Victoria and could only get ethanol fuel, I'd run the float bowls dry every time I parked the bike for more than a day. Just turn off the taps about a mile from home and let it idle until it stops when you get home. If the bike was going to be par...

Re: Idiot v. Motorbikes, Rounds 3, 4, and 5

I'm the guy who sat on Santa's knee and asked for a welder. Santa said, "I've seen your welds. You're getting a grinder for Christmas!" Haha...made me laff! Be mindful that adding height to the stand might add to any difficulty in hoiking it up. Might be less of a problem on an unfa...

Re: Break-in oil

I use Brad Penn 30W break-in oil with new rings or with something that sat for a while (like 30 years!). It stays in the motor for the first tank of gas or so, 200ish miles. Break-in riding is mostly accelerating and decelerating in gear, up and down, from 2K rpm to about 6K rpm. This has worked wel...

Re: R80/7 Reattaching Transmission

Yes, it should be a 12mm wrench head. I have some box end 12mm wrenches that fit and some that don't. And yes, you'll get barely 1/12 of a turn in the space available. Also watch for the airbox half to be squirming around as you tighten it. I usually have a rubber mallet on hand to make minor correc...

Re: oil change 1979 R100RS

Curious. I have a 1979 RS (resurrecting it) and getting the filter out wasn't an issue even though it was a one-piece filter. Fairing stayed on but I don't have crash bars on that one.

Re: R100r Classic side stand

I lean the bike onto the stand to hold it lightly while I reposition my foot to move the stand the rest of the way.

I put my toe on the tang as I start deploying it, then the toe moves to the shaft to get it all the way forward.

Size 10 (44 Euro) boots, I'm 5'8" on a good day.
