Sorry, no I'm an airhead. It does not look like it will be very hot. Maybe lower 80's.

Re: Oil smoke on start
I had the same thing on my 83 R100RS. It was the rings. Guides were fine. Compression was good and overall running was good. I took it apart and brought everything into my local machine shop and in 2 seconds he said rings and showed me what he saw. Very fine scratch marks across the face and a light...

Re: Valve spring height
Keeping the valve springs at the correct installed height will kep the correct pressure on the valves. Adjusting the rocker arms will do nothing for this. Yes they should be replace but with my current finances I will have to wait and plan on replacing the seats, valves and push rod tubes. I believe...

Re: Valve spring height
Thanks!!! I had to cut the valve seats and the ex were worse off than I thought. I will have to replace them in a couple years. The factory book and my Clymer book only give free length. I think the installed length is more important.

Valve spring height
Does anyone know the installed valve spring height for a 83 R100RS? My books do not give this information. Thanks.

Re: smoke on start up
I bought everything from San Jose BMW for the bike so I hope they would be the correct rings but!!!! I just got the breather off and it seems to be weak. By that I mean I can see a small gap between the reed and the face of the breather housing. I would think it should have some pressure on it to st...

Re: smoke on start up
Valve guides are very good. The only suprise in the heads are the ex valve keeper groves are hammered. I did not expect this as they are only 30K old. The intake valves are orignal and in exelent condition.

Re: smoke on start up
The bike stays on the center stand all night then I roll it out and start it. The smoking starts right away and will stop after maybee 1 minute but during that time boy does it smoke. The other thing I did was to remove some oil from the crankcase and that helped a bit.
