Hi, on my 1980 RS it came complete with the original early krauser panniers with the roung BMW badge on the lids. They are open but i have no keys. The locks say Sundhaus Locking system. Is there any way that i can obtain the associated key number which will hopefully be stamped on the locks somewhe...

Re: Converting to electronic ignition

Thanks Barry, i am now convinced that i need to go down the same route as yourself and leave me with the additional back up facility of reverting to points. Nearly all my mileage nowadays is long distance continental touring so that aspect is a BIG plus for me.

Re: Converting to electronic ignition

Many thanks Roy. That sounds like good advice. Out of the 2 Boyer systems mentioned which one would YOU go for for my RS where the cost is not the deciding factor.

Cheers Darryl

Re: Converting to electronic ignition

Re: Might I have seized the motor?

Take the spark plugs out, put the bike in 5th gear and then see if the engine will turn over when the bike is pushed.

Taking the plugs out will make this task MUCH easier!!!!

I have a n awful feeling that you may have cooked the motor.

Re: Advice re purchase of 1980 R100 RS please

Thanks Guy's i have agreed to buy it on Monday subject to viewing in the flesh but don't anticipate a problem as the high res photos of it have allowed me to study it carefully. It's been stored for a few years so will need oil and filters, fresh brake fluid and a battery but other than that it shou...

Re: Advice re purchase of 1980 R100 RS please

From reading your post, It seems you do not have the 83 RS anymore. In that case, I think the 80, if the price is right, would be a good bike. The brakes are NOT THAT bad...as Moose notes. Sometimes a few little mods can make a LOT of difference. My 78 R100s benefitted a lot from going to the St-St...
