curious about valve gear oiling

I'm working on a /7 motor and have a question about the supply of oil to the rocker gear...how do the rockers and their needle bearings get oiled? What path does the oil flow follow, lets say starting at the oil pump....is it engineered so that the valve cover actually fills with oil while the engin...

Re: The Water-cooled Boxer

Beautiful engine - hideous motorcycle! I find the praying mantis mouth on the leading edge of the front fender the only detail to be over-the-top for me. Yeah, the serrated cutting-edge tip on the front "fender" is a little off-putting to me.....and the silver "wing" thingy on t...

No Gaskets??

When I bought my 1978 R100/7 project bike, the seller claimed that he had torn down to the motor to check the condition of the crank bearings and found that they were OK. He also claimed to have "freshened" the top end during re-assembly....whatever that means. At the time, it did run, alb...

Re: Gas Additive

It's very popular now in the NW with small engine shops and loggers to keep from burning engines. So what do you mean by "burning engines"? I've been using 10% ethanol for years now in mowers, chain saws, leaf blowers, etc and have never heard of any issues with "burning engines"...

ID this rack part from an RT

I recently picked up an RT and this rack was installed, with nothing else attached to it. Can anyone ID it? It's stamped "430" on one side, but that's the only mark on it....thanks for your help!

New brake shoes

Since I'm cheap, I'm looking for alternatives to the OEM brake shoes that are $123 at the dealer....anyone have suggestions? (something other than "suck it up and pay the $123!!")

notchy bearing blues

So I noticed a very slight notch in the steering head at straight-ahead position....so it looks like there may be a bearing replacement in my future. Been reading about it and it looks like some folks have some luck with simply cleaning and regreasing the bearings. What about replacing just the cone...
