Re: How do I determine cylinder CC without head removal?
I'm up in Humboldt County on a slow connection so I'll make this brief. I'll post the full info I have on the 336 cams once I'm home - too difficult to do on this slow remote terminal to my home servers. Others can address issues of the measuring combustion chamber volume with heads in situ - I've d...

It also occurs to me that even if you don't care to look at the blog you might like this link to pictures I took at the WONDERFUL Barber Motorsports Museum http://tinyurl.com/JDF-Barber If you're ever in the Southeastern US I highly recommend this as a destination.

Dropping in as the weather changes
Just a "Hello" from a once-frequent visitor and poster. We've got our first cold spell going here in the SF Bay area (I know, not THAT cold) so it is time to line up some projects for the winter. It also occurs to me that I don't think I logged in to say "Hi and I'm back from my retir...

Re: Best route - Yellowstone to Minneapolis/St. Paul
Good suggestion. Thanks. I'm going to stay the first night with a friend just west of Reno, then head east to Ely before turning north to stay with another friend in Ashton, ID. @Jeff - yes, too long ... I hope you are well. The replacement Clearview arrived today and I installed it this afternoon. ...

Best route - Yellowstone to Minneapolis/St. Paul
*** (Duplicate posting of one on Boxerworks' "Open Road" forum, since that forum looks VERY quiet.) *** I’m leaving this coming Monday (June 18th) for New Hampshire, from Northern California. I am mostly staying with friends along the way and I’ll be on my 1988 R100RT. One of those friends...

Good route - Yellowstone to Minneapolis/St. Paul
I’m leaving this coming Monday (June 18th) for New Hampshire, from Northern California. I am mostly staying with friends along the way and I’ll be on my 1988 R100RT. One of those friends, who lives in North Dakota, will now be out of town so I’m given the opportunity to be flexible in my route from ...

Re: Clutch Wont Disengage
What transmission are you using? Is the travel provided by the hand lever appropriate for the leverage of the throw out lever? The later clutch disks didn't have specs for thickness but you DO need to be very close to what the rest of the parts are designed for if it is to work. Do you have and can ...

Re: Cam-/crankshaft installation ... lost alignment
Are you running the 60/5 cam, a 308 cam, or a 336 cam? Has the flywheel been properly installed and does it remain unmodified? Do you have a dial indicator? If you are running the double-row chain the marks on the sprockets can be EXTREMELY difficult to see. Have you used a VERY bright light and han...

Re: Spark Plugs
As long as you do your own work so you'll not make the mistake of putting non-resistor plugs in one of the later Bosch systems then I think it fine to use non-resistor HT leads and caps with the easy to find NGK resistor plugs. Works for me. John (itching to get going on my cross-US ride next month ...

Re: BMW 2 stroke?
Re Diesels, strokes, railroads ... Actually the two-stroke GM (they bought both Electro Motive and Winton Engines to get into the business in the '30s) was a successful Roots-blown two-stroke design. However, they (GM/EM) were not the only player and are not today, either. The ALCO/GE locomotives we...
