Bummer bummer bummer! I sold a transmission to a fellow, and the two tabs that anchor the clutch pivot arm were broken during shipping. Bummer! I have no faith in UPS taking any responsibility, based on past experiences.
A new back cover is $250+. Seems unlikely to find a good used one. Anyone think the tabs can be successfully welded back in place? Other suggestions?
Bummer!

Yes, they can be welded back on without dismantling the transmission. Tell him to take the pivot pin with him for the welder to use as an alignment tool.

That is good aluminum and can be welded successfully by any good welder. It will take some prep work and some finish work.

Re: Broken tabs on 1983 transmission
Most good welders wouldn't have a clue as to a procedure to weld a cover. With two tabs broken, a weld repair needs to be done over perhaps an hour to prevent excessive heat build up.
Think bearing pocket diametre increase/decrease. think warping the cover.

I've only shipped transmissions by building a wooden frame around it to which I've bolted the tranny.
