A drought just makes Western Oregon a halfway decent place to live. I got around 10" of rain in January alone. No snow yet this winter though. It's been fairly warm. Nothing preventing me from riding my motorcycle, nor today my bicycle.Steve in Golden wrote:Has anyone else noticed that drought seems to be pretty common these days?

Re: PMS - The Silent Killer
I remember researching after the term global warming and it referred to the average temperature of the oceans. After a quick search, I found this graph indicating the increasing average ocean temperatures. With an increase in average ocean temperatures, some areas will get hotter and others colder. This is the problem coming up with "cute" names for important issues. They are often misused as with the case here. Global warming was not supposed to represent ambient temperatures outside, which is what is often used to "debunk" the global warming/climate change.Duane Ausherman wrote:Yes, just think how cold it would be getting back east if we didn't have global warming. Oh wait, those that want to suck our money from the government trough finally noticed that the earth isn't warming. Now it is called climate change.
Edit: on a second look, I'm not sure the above graph represents what I think it does, but I'm out of time to do more research tonight. Sorry, if it's incorrect.

How about: What is in doubt is your making assumptions about an issue which is agreed upon by virtually every climate scientist in the world, based on nothing other than a completely different environment/climate issue from decades before.
Your anecdote simply has nothing to do with the current issue.

Re: Climate Change
Duane says the ozone hole was a hoax, and if that was a hoax, then climate change is also a hoax. Obviously the climate scientists don't really care about science; they are all colluding together to advance the hoax so they can get more $. According to Faux News and other right-leaning sites anyway.
Yeah, that makes sense. It's a giant conspiracy. Conspiracy types can never be rebutted; they just always say "it's a conspiracy". UFO types, for example, say that we have contacted aliens, there are alien bases on the moon and Mars, but the government is conspiring to keep it all a secret from the common man.
Yeah, that makes sense.

Steve, you need to improve your reading ability, or your memory.
I said, "Remember a similar scam with the Ozone hole ..............."
Your statement, "Duane says the ozone hole was a hoax, and if that was a hoax, then climate change is also a hoax."
That isn't a proper use of logic.
"Global warming" a term by those that wanted to sway those that react to emotion, had to be dropped in the late 90s as the data showed a flat line. Yes, earth warmed up and then stayed warm, it didn't continue to warm up. So with the data, the emotional term had to be changed to "Climate change." I am not impressed because just about all of the research shows that the climate has been changing for as long as scientist find evidence. It gets warmer and then cooler.
The question is "Does human action affect it more than if there were no humans on earth?" Probably so, but how much? Simple, there is no way to know.
Even if the emotional campaign to steal our money were correct, it still wouldn't matter. So the species that we know as human might eliminate themselves from earth. I doubt it, but if it happened, so what? It seems that some scientists claim that the majority of species has died off. I would posit that it is very likely that humans will go extinct, eventually.
I could, one more time, explain the why and how the Ozone hole was a hoax.
I was asked, "Where do you hang out?" I inferred that to be a question about where was I that I could know something about the Ozone hole. I certainly can't expect anyone to know my life history, so I answered the question clearly and fully.
Claiming that I might not be able to analyze the raw data correctly is just plain silly. Again, I can't expect anyone to know my life history, after all, a lot of it is on my web site. Who reads that? I have been analyzing raw data during a lot of my life with the various research projects that have employed me. Does two unrelated projects for SRI mean anything? How about a medical research facility that is always in the top 5 in the world? That would be the Cleveland Clinic. They even published 3 of my medical papers. No, I have no medical education of any kind, unless you consider high school biology. How about the NIH, National Institute of Health? Has anyone heard of that group? I don't remember which agency supported the Ozone hole research, but I was in the middle of that one too.
Maybe I should publish my resume.

What I want to know, did you see any penguins.
And did they sing "Blue Christmas"?

Rob, yes I saw many penguins, but no, they didn't sing anything. We weren't allowed to make any move to affect the fauna. If they approached us, we had to freeze up. Rather hard to do when attacked by the Skua birds. Or, when a leopard seal leaps out of an ice hole in order to eat you. While I was there, one grabbed a scientist and attempted to take her down the ice hole. Her co-worker grabbed something to beat on the seal until it let go of her. Her leg was badly damaged and I think that after our clinic did some quick stitching, they had to fly her off the ice to New Zealand for proper surgery.Rob wrote:What I want to know, did you see any penguins.

When one examines the danger of Antarctica, it is a wonder that anyone goes there. http://www.antarctica.ac.uk/about_antar ... azards.php
Consider a white out that killed a few in a helicopter crash in the first weeks that I was there. Within 3 hours the Skua birds came in and ate the victims. One person survived. One of my Ham radio friends was among the dead. The extreme cold can easily kill in a short time. To take a walk often forces one to walk with in a meter of known crevasses that are marked with black flags. Some single story buildings are tied down with guy lines just like a radio tower. The wind can pick up a full 55 gallon barrel and toss it around like a napkin. The list goes on and on.
