Riding my BMW again....
To-morrow(2nd July) will be the forth year since breaking my femur in a skydiving incident. I can now ride the BMW rt again,So the nasty Yamaha XV535 V!agra has been sold. It's difficult moving the BMW about in and out of my garage,and I cannot put it onto the centre stand unaided....BUT I CAN RIDE IT ! Great to be on a proper bike at last....I may be having joint replacement(hip/knee) in the future but I'll face that problem when it comes...Blue skies,KC.

I had a left femur/hip smashup and installed a Surefoot sidestand from Motobins on my R100RS.
It is further back than the original and was easy to put down BEFORE getting off the bike. Felt much safer.

Yes Dougie,I also use a Surefoot stand,It makes getting aboard the BM much easier....Blue skies,KC.

To my mind the stock side stands for the /6 and /7 bikes (and probably including the /5 and pre monolever bikes) were an abomination, for reasons which I don't really need to enumerate here. However I always (well except for that one time) got along with the stock side stand just fine. The reason is simple, I have long legs. While sitting on the seat I could find and deploy the side stand with my toe and push it forward until I felt it stop. That meant, with my toe still on the side stand. I could then safely lean the bike over (let the bike fall over?) and know that all would be well. Then I could easily dismount from my sitting position. In my years of riding airheads I've only had one problem dismounting that way. You see, I wear bifocals and the ground isn't necessarily in focus. On that one occasion I failed to see the dried up tire track depression that was in just the wrong place.
Now, I have ridden airheads with the Brown side stands (one came on my '91RT) and I wasn't impressed. My main issure was the lack of a tab on the Brown to allow me to 'toe' it easily and swing the side stand out. I also thought the Brown leaned the bike over much more than it ought to.
I have no experience with the Shure Foot, but I understand that it a Brown clone. If so I wouldn't be a fan of it either.

When I mounted a "Brown" on mine I left the stock side stand in place - it acts as a cradle of sorts and holds the Brown out away from the frame for easy access - and on a trip with a particularly heavy load, deployed both to ease my fears of collapse - works fine for me
