Reading further, it seems that Redline gear oils come in a variety of hues, including red, and the colorants may change with use.

Update:

After a good cleaning, the pitting was so bad the bowls developed smallest of holes.

So new bowls it is...

The saga continues. I posted a new topic wondering what I need to do further to get this thing started.

Hopefully someone has some answers...

The person I bought it from is a neighbor and potential riding buddy once I get his K75 in order. Said the bike was ridden to his house by previous owner, then ridden by him a short distance before being put under a raggedy tarp and left.

I will believe him, for now. Gotta have a lil faith in the world.

I haven't seen red hypoid myself---even "Redline" synthetic 75W-90 is reported to be yellow.

I hope you get it resuscitated by the 4th.
the red line I use is red I haven't seen the yellow

Yeah I looked around Brooklyn for used Rob. Guy said he had them, and when I showed up what he had were new. So bit the bullet on it.

If they are in your hands and NEW (and local!), that is great!
